Last week, Arctic Monkeys<\/a> returned with \u201cOpening Night,\u201d<\/a> a one-off charity single marking their first new song since 2022. Now, drummer Matt Helders has brushed off speculation about the track being their swan song.<\/p>\n In an interview with BBC Radio 1\u2019s New Music Show<\/em>, Helders told host Jack Saunders that while there are no immediate plans for new material, making music is something the band \u201cwill always do\u201d together.<\/p>\n Buy Arctic Monkeys Vinyl<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cIt was an opportunity for us to do a new song and get back together for the first time in a couple of years and see if we could still do it,\u201d Helders said about recording the track for the upcoming charity compilation HELP(2)<\/em>.<\/p>\n Related Video<\/p>\n Helders clarified that while Arctic Monkeys entered the recording \u201cknowing it was a one-off\u201d single, the band \u201cfeels natural\u201d in the studio, which he described as their \u201chappy place.\u201d Though \u201ctime will tell\u201d whether the group will feel inspired to make more music, Helders stated that they had \u201ca lot of fun\u201d making \u201cOpening Night.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s no conversations about it,\u201d he said about recording more new material, \u201cbut it\u2019s definitely something we love to do and we\u2019ll always do.\u201d<\/p>\n In a previous interview with Apple Music\u2019s Zane Lowe (via\u00a0NME<\/em>)<\/a>, Helders described Arctic Monkeys reconvening for HELP(2)<\/em> as a \u201cno-brainer.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThis is a reason we\u2019d do something,\u201d he said, referring to supporting the global children\u2019s charity\u00a0War Child UK<\/a>. \u201cThere\u2019s always going to be talk about it like, \u2018What does it mean for the band?\u2019 We want it to just be for these people and for this.’\u201d<\/p>\n He continued, \u201cPeople are going between album cycles, off tour, they\u2019re not worried about that at the moment. Let\u2019s just come together and do this. Everyone made time in their schedule to do it. For us, everyone can agree that this is a good cause. No one\u2019s on the fence about whether we should help the kids or not.\u201d<\/p>\n However, Helders did add that\u00a0it was nice to \u201csee everyone and to fall back into the roles that we\u2019ve always had with each other, musically and personally.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cSometimes we might not see each other for six months, but when we do it\u2019s like we were never apart,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s just how we are with people, with each other. It translates musically as well.
