KEENE, N.H. \u2014 The Colonial Theatre and Showroom have announced a transformational $1 million anonymous gift to strengthen and grow the organization\u2019s endowment, marking a significant milestone for the historic institution that was founded in 1924 and renovated in 1993 as a non-profit organization.<\/p>\n
The donor’s gift reflects a deep belief that communities must step forward to sustain the cultural institutions they hold dear, according to Colonial Executive Director Keith Marks, and that long-term investment is essential to ensuring their future.<\/p>\n

Many have closed their doors due to the high costs of maintaining aging buildings and sustaining year-round operations. From insurance, utilities, and staffing to production expenses and ongoing capital maintenance, the financial demands of operating a historic performing arts center are substantial.<\/p>\n
An endowment helps address these realities by providing a permanent source of support that strengthens financial sustainability over time. Income generated from the endowment will help offset operating costs, support artistic programming, and ensure The Colonial can continue serving the community without compromising accessibility or artistic excellence, Marks said.<\/p>\n
