Paul Dano has broken his silence on a recent controversy – and Aussie actress Toni Collette is backing him up.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Dano has finally responded nearly two months after Quentin Tarantino slammed him as a \u201cweak\u201d and \u201cuninteresting\u201d actor<\/a> during an appearance on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast<\/i> released back on December 2.<\/p>\n

Several Hollywood stars came to Dano\u2019s defence after Tarantino\u2019s controversial remarks, and the Batman star thanked them for their support while addressing the surprising matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was really nice,\u201d Dano, 41, told Variety<\/a> while celebrating the 20th anniversary of Little Miss Sunshine<\/i> at the Sundance Film Festival on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was also incredibly grateful that the world spoke up for me so I didn\u2019t have to,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

But one of Dano\u2019s former Little Miss Sunshine<\/i> co-stars, Toni Collette, had a harsher response to the Kill Bill filmmaker regarding the disparaging comments.<\/p>\n

\u201cF**k that guy!\u201d the 53-year-old actor charged during the event, per Variety. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe must\u2019ve been high \u2026 It was just confusing. Who does that?\u201d<\/p>\n

Collette was joined by Little Miss Sunshine<\/i> co-directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris in firing back at Tarantino after his attack against Dano.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can only think that the rawness of his performance made Tarantino uncomfortable,\u201d Dayton, 68, told Variety after calling Tarantino\u2019s remarks an \u201cembarrassment.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know what was interesting was the people coming out to defend Paul,\u201d Faris, 67, added. \u201cThere was immediately \u2026 He is loved by so many. He is so smart.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Post<\/i> has reached out to Tarantino\u2019s reps for comment.<\/p>\n

The Once Upon a Time \u2026 in Hollywood<\/i> director, 62, came under fire last month while naming his top 10 movies of the 21st century on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Although Tarantino ranked Paul Thomas Anderson\u2019s 2007 hit There Will Be Blood<\/i> fifth, he stressed that it would have been ranked higher if not for Dano\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere Will Be Blood<\/i> would stand a better chance to be in No. 1 or No. 2 if it didn\u2019t have a big giant flaw in it, and the flaw is Paul Dano,\u201d he said at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, it\u2019s supposed to be a two-hander, and it\u2019s also so drastically obvious that it\u2019s not a two-hander,\u201d Tarantino added.<\/p>\n

The Oscar-winning filmmaker went on to call Dano, who portrayed both Eli and Paul Sunday in the movie, a \u201cweak sister\u201d and argued that \u201canother terrific actor\u201d should have taken on the dual role instead.<\/p>\n

\u201cAustin Butler would have been wonderful in that role,\u201d he continued. <\/p>\n

\u201c[Dano] is just such a weak, weak, uninteresting guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tarantino then said that Dano gave a \u201cnon-entity performance\u201d in There Will Be Blood<\/i> before naming two additional actors that he \u201cdoesn\u2019t care for.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t care for him,\u201d the Django Unchained<\/i> director concluded. <\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t care for him, I don\u2019t care for Owen Wilson, and I don\u2019t care for Matthew Lillard.\u201d<\/p>\n

Countless celebrities rushed to the Dumb Money<\/i> star\u2019s defence, including many with whom Dano worked alongside, like Matt Reeves and Ben Stiller.<\/p>\n

\u201cPaul Dano is an incredible actor, and an incredible person,\u201d the Batman<\/i> director tweeted after Tarantino\u2019s comments.<\/p>\n

\u201cIdk man I think Paul Dano is an incredible actor,\u201d Stiller, who worked with Dano for Escape at Dannemora<\/i>, added at the time.<\/p>\n
