Melania Trump<\/a>\u2019s much-discussed documentary will not be shown in South African cinemas.<\/p>\n

According to the New York Times, \u201cMelania<\/a>\u201d \u2014 scheduled to open worldwide on Friday and already a highly contentious film \u2014 has been pulled from theaters in the country by the local distributor.<\/p>\n

\u201cBased on recent developments, we\u2019ve taken the decision to not go ahead with a theatrical release in territory,\u201d said Filmfinity<\/a>\u2019s head of sales and marketing Thobashan Govindarajulu to South African outlet News24<\/a>, who first reported the news.<\/p>\n

While Govindarajulu didn\u2019t say what the recent developments were, he asserted that the move was \u201cour decision\u201d and that it hadn\u2019t been pressurized into doing so. That said, the decision does come amid rising tensions between Donald Trump<\/a> and the South African government after the U.S president criticized the country, making widely discredited claims that a genocide is being committed against its white population.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
