The new song celebrates protesters and the memories of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti<\/p>\n
Bruce Springsteen<\/a> has released a new song, \u2018Streets of Minneapolis\u2019, protesting Immigration and Customs Enforcement\u2019s (ICE) occupation of the city and recent killings of two American citizens, Alex Pretti<\/a> and Renee Nicole Good<\/a>.<\/p>\n The song comes after a New Jersey performance earlier this month, at which Springsteen dedicated his song \u2018Promised Land\u2019 to Good, who was killed on January 7. Pretti was killed on Saturday, January 24; Springsteen wrote \u2018Streets of Minneapolis\u2019 the same day.<\/p>\n \u201cI wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis,\u201d Springsteen posted on social media. \u201cIt\u2019s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.\u201d<\/p>\n In the song, Springsteen speaks of \u201cKing Trump\u2019s private army from the DHS<\/em>\u201d (Department of Homeland Security), \u201cchants of ICE out now!<\/em>\u201d and how \u201cagainst smoke and rubber bullets,\u2026citizens stood for justice<\/em>\u201d. \u201cOh our Minneapolis, I hear your voice\/Singing through the bloody mist\u2026We\u2019ll remember the names of those who died\/On the streets of Minneapolis<\/em>,\u201d sings Springsteen in the song\u2019s chorus.<\/p>\n In the wake of both killings, the Trump administration argued that the victims were to blame, despite video recordings suggesting otherwise. After Good was killed while trying to drive away from ICE agents, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem called her a \u201cdomestic terrorist\u201d who tried to \u201cweaponise her vehicle\u201d. After Pretti was killed while carrying a gun on his person, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller called him an \u201cassassin\u201d who tried to \u201cmurder federal agents\u201d, despite the fact that Pretti made no attempt to draw the weapon, and had been disarmed at the time he was shot.<\/p>\n \u201cTheir claim was self defense, sir<\/em>,\u201d Springsteen sings of the administration\u2019s accounts. \u201cJust don\u2019t believe your eyes\/It\u2019s our blood and bones\/And these whistles and phones\/Against Miller and Noem\u2019s dirty lies<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n Springsteen has long been a vocal critic of US President Donald Trump.
