Springteen has long used his music to address cultural crises<\/a>, and his latest offering explicitly denounces the hypocrisy and murderous impunity of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Patrol agents\u2019 assault on communities in and around the Twin Cities. The artist was stirred to action after the execution of Alex Pretti on a residential street on Saturday, and the song memorializes both Pretti and Renee Good to steal meaning from their killings.<\/p>\n \u201cI wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis,\u201d Springsteen detailed in a post to his social channels. \u201cIt\u2019s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. Stay free.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cStreets of Minneapolis\u201d is a hard-hitting rock anthem, calling on the time-honored tradition of rebel ballads to summon resolve and righteous indignation in the face of unrepentant brutality. Springsteen\u2019s raspy roar charges against \u201cKing Trump\u2019s private army\u201d before resolute organ, wailing harmonica and a choir, with recorded protest chants rising through the arrangement that manifest his vow to \u201chear your voice singing through the bloody mist.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cTheir claim was self-defense, sir,\u201d Springsteen sings in a particularly impactful passage. \u201cJust don\u2019t believe your eyes\/ It\u2019s our blood and bones\/ And these whistles and phones\/ Against Miller and Noem\u2019s dirty lies.\u201d<\/p>\n Springsteen has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration since his first term, and after formally endorsing <\/a>Kamala Harris in the 2024 election<\/a>, the singer-songwriter voiced his objection to the \u201ccorrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration\u201d on the Land of Hopes & Dreams<\/em><\/a> live EP last May.
