Catherine O’Hara<\/a>, the beloved veteran star who became a household name with her roles in Home Alone<\/em>, Schitt’s Creek,<\/em> and Best in Show<\/em>, has died. She was 71.<\/p>\n

The legendary Hollywood actress died Friday, her manager confirmed to PEOPLE<\/a>. A cause of death was not given.<\/p>\n

O’Hara was was born on March 4, 1954, in Toronto as the sixth of seven children. Her first acting gig was portraying the Virgin Mary in a Nativity play.\u00a0After graduating from high school, she got a job as a waitress at the Second City Theater in Toronto before joining the company as a member in 1974.<\/p>\n

The actress became a staple in the theater’s sketch series Second City Television<\/em>\u00a0(SCTV<\/em>), which aired on NBC in the 1980s, before working with a number of acclaimed filmmakers, including Mike Nichols for Heartburn<\/em>, Martin Scorsese for After Hours<\/em>, and Warren Beatty for Dick Tracy<\/em>. But it was her leading roles in Burton’s\u00a0<\/em>1988 movie, Beetlejuice,<\/em>\u00a0and John Hughes’\u00a01990 hit, Home Alone, <\/em>that\u00a0catapulted her to the A-list.<\/p>\n
