LOS ANGELES (AP) \u2014 Catherine O’Hara, the Emmy-winning actor known for comedic roles across the decades \u2014 from Kevin’s beleaguered mom in \u201cHome Alone\u201d to the iconic Moira Rose<\/a> in \u201cSchitt’s Creek\u201d \u2014 died Friday at 71.<\/p>\n

The Canadian-born O’Hara died at her home in Los Angeles \u201cfollowing a brief illness,\u201d according to a statement from her agency, Creative Artists Agency. Further details were not immediately available.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Hara\u2019s career was launched at the Second City in Toronto in the in 1970s. It was there that she first worked with Eugene Levy, who would become a lifelong collaborator \u2014 and her \u201cSchitt\u2019s Creek\u201d costar. The two would be among the original cast of the sketch show \u201cSCTV,\u201d which would help launch the careers of other top Canadian comedians, like Martin Short and Andrea Martin.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

O’Hara’s dramatic turn in HBO’s \u201cThe Last of Us\u201d earned her an Emmy nomination, as did her recent role as a Hollywood producer in \u201cThe Studio.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n
