She portrayed many of them on the big or small screen as part of her eclectic body of work.<\/p>\n<p>As fans and appreciators of the Canadian comedic legend look back on her memorable roles, here\u2019s a look at some other titles in which the beloved late actress was able to flex her madcap maternal instincts:<\/p>\n<h2>Kate McCallister in \u2018Home Alone\u2019 (1990)<\/h2>\n<p>Never has a one-word movie line become so iconic as when O\u2019Hara, as the frazzled mom of five in this <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/12\/01\/entertainment\/macaulay-culkin-catherine-ohara-home-alone\/index.html\">classic Christmas movie<\/a>, uttered <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/zFGM65CIWqk?t=44\">\u201cKEVIN!\u201d after realizing she left<\/a> one of her brood at home during their holiday trip to France. The movie hinges on her quest to be reunited with Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) and is ultimately quite heartwarming, but O\u2019Hara still got to fly a bit of her unique flag in certain moments, like when <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tG1wyIdE8nw\">irritably pleading<\/a> with the staff at the airport to move mountains to get her home (fat chance).<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, Culkin paid tribute to O\u2019Hara on <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DUJTe8rEmO4\/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ%3D%3D\">social media<\/a>, addressing her as \u201cmama.\u201d \u201cI thought we had time,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you but I had so much more to say. I love you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHome Alone\u201d director Chris Columbus also honored the late actress, heralding her performance as having brought \u201cprofound emotional depth\u201d to the movie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat most people don\u2019t realize is that Catherine carries the weight of 50% of that film. The movie simply would not work without her extraordinary performance,\u201d he told celebrity.land in a statement.<\/p>\n<h2>Moira Rose in \u2018Schitt\u2019s Creek\u2019 (2015-2020)<\/h2>\n<p>O\u2019Hara gained many new fans and admirers thanks to her performance as Moira Rose, a role that netted her an Emmy in 2020. A wayward posh actress who finds herself stuck in a deeply rural place, Moira is at her most amusing \u2013 and cringeworthy \u2013 when trying to mother her disillusioned children Alexis (Annie Murphy) and David (Dan Levy).<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, though, her awkward and stilted efforts prove to be endearing, with the star of \u201cThe\u00a0Crows\u00a0Have Eyes III: The Crowening\u201d occupying a position adjacent to Delia Deetz in the pantheon of timeless and bizarre onscreen moms.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday evening, Dan Levy, who co-created the show with his father Eugene Levy, shared an <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DUJ-uKrjJkh\">emotional tribute to O\u2019Hara on Instagram<\/a>, writing that it was \u201ca gift to have gotten to dance in the warm glow\u201d of his late costar for the years they were making the series.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving spent over fifty years collaborating with my Dad, Catherine was extended family before she ever played my family,\u201d he said, referencing the pair who got to know each other while doing improv in Toronto and later co-starred in the Canadian sketch comedy show, <em>SCTV<\/em> (<em>Second City Television<\/em>). \u201cIt\u2019s hard to imagine a world without her in it. I will cherish every funny memory I was fortunate enough to make with her.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Cookie Fleck in \u2018Best In Show\u2019 (2000)<\/h2>\n<p>O\u2019Hara\u2019s hilarious role as formerly promiscuous dog mom <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-YB452Mk0Bs&amp;t=1s\">Cookie Fleck in \u201cBest In Show\u201d<\/a> is ironclad proof that if the one joke in a one-joke gag is good, you can keep coming back to it over and over again. As Cookie and her bumbling husband Gerry (Eugene Levy) compete for Best in Show with their little canine Winkie, they keep crossing paths with Cookie\u2019s past flings\u2026 to maddening effect.<\/p>\n<p>Christopher Guest, the director of \u201cBest in Show,\u201d told celebrity.land in a statement that he was \u201cdevastated\u201d by O\u2019Hara\u2019s death. \u201cWe have lost one of the comic giants of our age,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<h2>Beatrice Lever in \u2018Home Fries\u2019 (1998)<\/h2>\n<p>This odd darkish comedy is made all the odder by O\u2019Hara\u2019s meddling and kinda homicidal mother character Beatrice, who puts her sons up to scaring (and ultimately killing) her two-timing husband. From there, she tries to convince the pair of young men to hunt down the other woman, an unassuming and adorable fast food worker played by Drew Barrymore.
