Molly Ringwald<\/a> might\u2019ve become a household name thanks to leading roles in John Hughes<\/a> films like \u201cSixteen Candles<\/a>\u201d and \u201cPretty in Pink<\/a>,\u201d but the actor isn\u2019t lobbying for remakes of the coming-of-age classics anytime soon \u2014 and she doesn\u2019t think Hughes<\/a> would be either.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, they can\u2019t be [remade] because they can\u2019t be made without the permission of [the late] John Hughes, and he didn\u2019t want the films to be remade,\u201d Ringwald told People at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival. \u201cAnd I don\u2019t think that they should be really.\u201d<\/p>\n

But that doesn\u2019t mean Ringwald isn\u2019t open to new interpretations of the stories at the center of the iconic films. The actor noted that of all Hughes\u2019 films, the most relevant likely remains the 1985 cult-classic \u201cThe Breakfast Club<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n
