Peiriant will release their new single \u201cSong In Parts\u201d on Friday 30 January via Recordiau Nawr, ahead of their third studio album Plant<\/a><\/em>. The Hay-on-Wye duo includes Rose Linn-Pearl on violin and Dan Linn-Pearl on electric guitar.<\/p>\n

\u201cSong In Parts\u201d appears on Plant<\/em> and was produced by Sam Grant at Blank Studios in Newcastle upon Tyne. The track sets a violin lead against major\u2013minor guitar lines and low synth tones, with ambient references to Brian Eno, La Monte Young and Aphex Twin\u2019s mid-1990s work. Artwork for the single uses a detail from Amber Hiscott\u2019s painting Violette Enters The World<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Plant<\/em> follows the duo\u2019s previous album Dychwelyd<\/a><\/em>, which reflected on returning to Cymru to raise a family and drew on the landscapes of the Black Mountains in Bannau Brycheiniog. Dychwelyd<\/em> was named Folk Album of the Month by The Guardian and appeared in the newspaper\u2019s top ten folk albums of 2024.<\/p>\n

The new album takes its title from the Welsh word for \u201cchildren\u201d and continues the story begun on Dychwelyd<\/em>. Across eight instrumental pieces, Plant<\/em> addresses everyday anxieties about the future alongside day-to-day joy. Many sections were improvised in the studio, using ideas first developed in short late-night writing sessions, and they draw on the cadences and rhythms of Cymraeg, a first language for Rose and a second language for Dan.<\/p>\n

Peiriant build their sound around violin and electric guitar, adding bass from a Moog Grandmother, melodic lines from a pair of Korg Volca units and chopped, re-sampled material from the Fieldtone Weaver. Expanded use of percussion introduces a more metronomic, rhythm-focused edge. The album artwork features Amber Hiscott\u2019s painting Violette Meets The World<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The duo draws from folk and classical training as well as post-rock, minimalism, sound art and world music. Peiriant focus on melody, tonality, and atmosphere in semi-improvised pieces that remain closely connected to the Welsh landscape.<\/p>\n
