His &#8220;Big Money&#8221; was named Best Americana Album.<\/p>\n<p>Batiste didn&#8217;t fare as well in the Best American Roots Performance or American Roots Song categories. The guest stars on the album include the Rolling Stones.<\/p>\n<p>                                <\/span><\/p>\n<p>                                <span class=\"credit\"><br \/>\n                                    <span itemprop=\"author\" class=\"tnt-byline\">PROVIDED IMAGE<\/span><br \/>\n                                <\/span><\/p>\n<p>                        <span class=\"clearfix\"\/><br \/>\n                    <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Released via southwest Louisiana musician Joel Savoy&#8217;s Valcour Records, the album consists of songs written by or associated with Chenier, all redone by Louisiana musicians collaborating with special guests, including the Rolling Stones.<\/p>\n<p>The Stones <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nola.com\/entertainment_life\/keith_spera\/why-the-rolling-stones-are-on-clifton-chenier-tribute-album\/article_f9cd38c7-493c-4923-905b-7f03e7bcee0e.html\" target=\"_blank\">contributed their take on the zydeco standard \u201cZydeco Sont Pas Sal\u00e9s.<\/a>&#8221; Mick Jagger sings in Creole French atop a foundation laid down by a band of Cajun and zydeco musicians, including accordionist Steve Riley and Chenier\u2019s old drummer, Robert St. Julien.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"3\" style=\"position:relative;\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<p>The Stones contribution was produced by southwest Louisiana guitarist C.C. Adcock; he also produced Lucinda Williams\u2019 collaboration with 85-year-old swamp pop legend Tommy McLain. Joel Savoy and Los Lobos\u2019 Steve Berlin produced the album\u2019s other 10 tracks.<\/p>\n<p>The other nominees in the Regional Roots Music category included Preservation Hall Jazz Band keyboardist Kyle Roussel for &#8220;Church of New Orleans&#8221;; Corey Henry &amp; the Treme Funktet for \u201cLive At Vaughan\u2019s\u201d; Preservation Brass &amp; Preservation Hall Jazz Band for \u201cFor Fat Man;\u201d and Trombone Shorty &amp; the New Breed Brass Band for \u201cSecond Line Sunday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New Orleans-based guitarist Samantha Fish didn&#8217;t take home the Best Contemporary Blues Album for her &#8220;Paper Doll.&#8221; Instead, the award went to Robert Randolph&#8217;s &#8220;Preacher Kids.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"4\" style=\"position:relative;\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<p>\u201cYoung Fashioned Ways,\u201d a cross-generational Louisiana blues summit from 91-year-old Bobby Rush and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, lost out in the Best Traditional Blues Album category to fellow Louisiana native Buddy Guy\u2019s \u201cAin\u2019t Done With the Blues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>PJ Morton, the St. Augustine High School graduate who is a member of Maroon 5 as well as a solo R&amp;B\/gospel artist, received multiple nominations for his collaboration with Houston-based contemporary gospel artist Darrel Walls. Their \u201cHeart of Mine\u201d album won Best Gospel Album but their \u201cAmazing\u201d didn&#8217;t win Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance\/Song.<\/p>\n<p>The singer Ledisi, who spent her childhood in New Orleans before moving with her family to California, was nominated for Best Traditional R&amp;B Performance for \u201cLove You Too.\u201d Leon Thomas won that award for his &#8220;Vibes Don&#8217;t Lie.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"5\" style=\"position:relative;\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<p>Thomas&#8217; &#8220;Mutt&#8221; also bested Ledisi&#8217;s \u201cThe Crown\u201d for Best R&amp;B Album.<\/p>\n<p>Saxophonist Branford Marsalis, who moved back to New Orleans in 2024 after decades of living in North Carolina, received a Best Jazz Instrumental Album nomination for his quartet\u2019s \u201cBelonging,&#8221; a reimagining of the 1974 Keith Jarrett album of the same name.
