The biggest external search in triple j’s history has provided the station’s first female music director. <\/p>\n
triple j <\/strong>has announced that their search for a music director is over, with internal appointment Claire Mooney<\/strong> jumping into the chair as the network\u2019s first female to take the role. <\/p>\n With just three previous long-tenured appointments, Arnold Frolows, Richard Kingsmill <\/strong>and Nick Findlay<\/strong>, the position is one of the most coveted and criticised in Australian music.<\/p>\n Mooney arrived at triple j as an Unearthed<\/strong> producer in 2017 before taking on several roles in the programming department. In 2021 she was appointed assistant music director before moving into the Unearthed music director seat last year.<\/p>\n In October it was announced <\/a>that Findlay would be taking on a new role as Manager of Music Programming, overseeing the strategy across triple j, Double J<\/strong>, Unearthed and ABC Country<\/strong> and that the triple j music director position would be externally advertised for the first time in the station\u2019s history.<\/p>\n “What a privilege it is to step into this new era of triple j as our first female Music Director,\u201d Mooney said. <\/p>\n Don’t miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI feel so honoured and excited to continue the legacy that’s been built by my mentors.
