As he gets ready to depart as the Mouse House\u2019s CEO, Iger noted the turnaround in the Disney theme parks business since he first took the top job in 2005 \u2014 with the parks business rivaling the movie and TV in being the leading contributor growth and profits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe have a healthy competition now at our company in terms of which of those two businesses is going to essentially prevail as the No. 1 driver of profitability for the company,\u201d Iger said on the earnings call. \u201cBut I\u2019m confident that both have that ability, meaning both have the ability to grow nicely into the future, giving all the investments that we\u2019ve made and the trajectory that we\u2019re on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFor <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/tv\/news\/disney-q1-2026-earnings-stops-reporting-disney-plus-hulu-subscribers-1236648525\/\">the last three months of 2025<\/a>, the parks business was the stronger performer. Disney\u2019s theme parks and products biz hit a record $10 billion in revenue (up 6%) in the year-end quarter and operating income rose 6% to $3.3 billion. Revenue in Disney\u2019s entertainment business rose 11% to $11.6 billion but operating profit dropped 35%, to $1.1 billion, on higher content, production and marketing costs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/biz\/news\/bob-iger-step-down-disney-ceo-before-end-of-2026-1236646611\/\">Iger is reportedly planning to step down<\/a>\u00a0before his contract officially expires at the end of 2026. The board is \u201caligning\u201d around selecting Josh D\u2019Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-02-02\/disney-board-is-close-to-picking-parks-chief-d-amaro-as-next-ceo\">per Bloomberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tCommenting on the agenda for Disney\u2019s next CEO, Iger said that \u201ctrying to preserve the status quo is a mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIn the world that changes as much as it does\u2026 trying to preserve the status quo is a mistake, and I\u2019m certain that my successor will not do that,\u201d he told analysts. \u201cSo [the new CEO will] be handed, I think, a good hand in terms of the strength of the company, a number of opportunities to grow and and also the exhortation that in a world that changes, you also have to continue to change and evolve as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tEarlier on the call, Iger didn\u2019t exactly sound like he was ready to go yet. \u201cI don\u2019t want to really\u2026 get too nostalgic or spend too much time on a possible transition,\u201d he said, before interjecting, \u201cor the <em>probable<\/em> transition.\u201d The good news, he said, \u201cis that the company is in much better shape today than it was three years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIger previously retired at the end of 2021, after serving as CEO of Disney for 15 years, and was replaced by then-CEO Bob Chapek.
