Comedian Bill Maher on Friday railed against celebrity political endorsements, suggesting that they\u2019re driving independent voters to favor Republicans.<\/p>\n

\u201cCelebrities, I know it\u2019s very important to you that you feel that you\u2019re making a difference, and you are, you\u2019re making independents vote Republican,\u201d he wrote in the post<\/a> on X.<\/p>\n

Maher included a clip from his show with former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) where he explained how celebrity endorsements influence voters.<\/p>\n

\u201cDemocrats, it\u2019s great you have all the big celebs, but people see them as an arm of the Democratic Party, which they already suspect for lacking common sense. I know the celebrities mean well, and we thank them for having their heart in the right place, but just do you. Do what you do so well,\u201d he told viewers.<\/p>\n

\u201cUse your extraordinary talents for the noble cause of bringing relief from the problems that ribbons and pins can\u2019t fix. I know it\u2019s very important to you that you feel that you\u2019re making a difference, so let me assure you, you are. You\u2019re making independents vote Republican,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The comedian said celebrity endorsements often have \u201cthe opposite effect of what you want.\u201d<\/p>\n

He slammed endorsements for former Vice President Harris from Oprah to George Clooney and Beyonce, noting that \u201cshe lost every swing state.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maher also cited a survey that found 24 percent of Ohio voters said Taylor Swift\u2019s endorsement made them less enthusiastic about Harris as a candidate.<\/p>\n

\u201cCome on. Read the room, Democrats. Celebrities aren\u2019t helping, and why would they? In a country where the big issue now is affordability, outside of, I don\u2019t know, [Bruce] Springsteen and a few others, celebrities don\u2019t strike people as relatable or in touch, and what their activism mostly activates is eye rolls,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

The comedian went on to point out how celebrities differ from the average person.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause stars, they\u2019re not just like us. They\u2019re just not. They fly private. They have five houses all over the world. They give their kids ridiculous names. They make candles that smell like their vagina. They wear crazy amounts of jewelry. They buy castles. They buy towns. They buy islands. They have shark tanks,\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey show up three hours late for their own concerts, and people still go. Please, it\u2019s OK. You\u2019re stars. We like you for who you are. Insulated divas whose talent allows you to pig out on the finer things in life because we all need something to aspire to. But being talented, which you are, isn\u2019t the same as knowing things or having the credibility to advise people on their politics,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
