Edmonton-based three-piece band, Fille-Fille<\/a>, after their set at Dive Bar as a part of Winterruption 2026<\/a>, chatted outside with The Gateway<\/em> about their upcoming work and formation.\u00a0<\/p>\n The band is Leah Gagnon on drums, Delphine Konstant on vox and guitar, and Quinn Mayflower on bass. Gagnon is a philosophy major at the University of Alberta, where Konstant also studies education. The project was originally started by Konstant, the name Fille-Fille being a shortening of her first name. After meeting at a pro-Palestinian protest, Gagnon joined the band.<\/p>\n After Konstant and Gagnon began rehearsing at Electric Treehouse<\/a> and playing Rockin\u20194Dollars<\/a>, Konstant met Mayflower. \u201cI found out she was in a band and needed a bass player, so I joined and it\u2019s been perfect chemistry ever since,\u201d Mayflower said.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re all very strong and very powerful, and our music shows that,\u201d Gagnon added. Each member highlighted the other. \u201c[Mayflower\u2019s] bass is so melodic and tells such a story, and [Gagnon\u2019s] drumming is the craziest, most passionate drumming I\u2019ve ever heard. It\u2019s like John Bonham is always in the room,\u201d Konstant said.\u00a0<\/p>\n Gagnon said that everything with the band\u2019s chemistry is based on feel. \u201cWhat we\u2019re trying to cultivate is a group telepathy,\u201d Mayflower said.\u00a0<\/p>\n While they currently only have one release out, Konstant said the band is actually gearing up to release a two-track single. And after that, they\u2019re set to release two more songs to follow up. One of the releases, which they played during their set at Dive Bar, is called \u201cQuick Rip.\u201d<\/p>\n The song is a sequel to Ray Peterson\u2019s<\/a> \u201cTell Laura I Love Her<\/a>.\u201d Mayflower said the song is their first true collaboration. The 1960 original is about a man who dies in a car crash, from the man\u2019s perspective. The band\u2019s sequel is from the point of view of the woman in the song. Konstant said she wanted to highlight how traumatic and terrible it would be for this woman in the song to lose her partner.\u00a0<\/p>\n The other song is called \u201cLittle Black Box.\u201d Konstant said the song explores morality. It opens with \u201cLittle White Box,\u201d a religious song Konstant was taught in Catechism school.\u00a0<\/p>\n Konstant said the song was inspired by a kid she was living with back at Catechism school. \u201cAs a kid growing up, it was either you did good or you did bad with no in between. And back then I was living with an 11-year-old who was constantly getting into trouble, and I couldn\u2019t help but feel that so much of it was circumstantial.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cShe was a kid with a lot of unique needs. I feel that it was unfair that a lot of that behaviour was deemed undesirable and was met with punishment,\u201d Konstant explained. \u201cI wanted to take a new spin on morality that\u2019s more empowering,\u201d she added.\u00a0<\/p>\n Alongside this, Mayflower said that while they don\u2019t subscribe to an ideology, they find comfort in the symbol of Satan. \u201cWe are rejected by the Orthodox god. [Satan] is the one that looks out for us, and is the one who represents not evil, but nature uncontrolled. Nature without hegemonic categories that are imposed upon it,\u201d Mayflower explained.<\/p>\n \u201cI always come back to this quote, \u2018Though we forego the privilege of naturalness, we are not deterred, for we ally ourselves instead with the chaos and blackness from which Nature itself spills forth,\u2019\u201d she added. This is a quote by Susan Stryker<\/a> from My Words to Victor Frankenstein above the Village of Chamounix<\/em><\/a>.<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cWe just like to do what feels good to us,\u201d Konstant said. \u201cWe make music that we like to play and that we have fun playing. And what\u2019s cool is we never know who it resonates with.\u201d<\/p>\n Konstant said they played a skatepark show during Found Festival in the summer of 2024 where a lot of young people said the band resonated with them. \u201cThere were so many young people out at that all ages show who felt really seen,\u201d Konstant said. \u201cIt\u2019s like we are creating a space for people that [have been] pushed aside or dismissed and they can find some comfort in what we do because maybe we\u2019ve walked a similar journey.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/thegatewayonline.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/DSC7463-683x1024.jpeg\")
