He told<\/a> Vanity Fair in 2023 that he would \u201cnever\u201d sing in English \u201cjust because someone says I need to do it to reach a certain audience.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cI think in Spanish, I feel in Spanish, I eat in Spanish, I sing in Spanish,\u201d he told the magazine.\n <\/p>\n \n He has now put out seven studio albums, without a single full song in English.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cHe didn\u2019t move toward the world; he made the world move toward us,\u201d Nydia Velazquez (D-NY) said in an interview featured in celebrity.land\u2019s \u201cBad Bunny and the Halftime Show: Rhythms of Resistance,\u201d streaming now.\n <\/p>\n \n Bad Bunny has already made a cameo at the Super Bowl halftime show \u2014 back in 2020, when Jennifer Lopez and Shakira co-headlined.\n <\/p>\n \n The show had searing visuals<\/a>, including a segment during their performance of \u201cLet\u2019s Get Loud\u201d featuring children singing from cage-like structures on the field \u2014 a statement on US immigration policy.\n <\/p>\n \n Shakira and JLo, both of whom sing in both English and Spanish, had touted their performance as one that would seek to unify and one that would, Shakira said at the time, show \u201cwhat a relevant force the Latin community is in this country.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n It was met with mixed reviews and over 1,000 FCC complaints,<\/a> some claiming the show was not family friendly.\n <\/p>\n \n Ahead of the Super Bowl this Sunday, Turning Point USA announced it would deploy its own counterprogramming, in the form of an \u201cAll American Halftime Show\u201d featuring performers Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice and Gabby Barrett.\n <\/p>\n \n Trump has already said<\/a> he is \u201canti-them,\u201d referring to Bad Bunny, as well as show openers Green Day, who are also critics of his administration. House Speaker Mike Johnson has said<\/a> the choice of Bad Bunny is \u201ca terrible decision.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cIt sounds like he\u2019s not someone who appeals to a broader audience,\u201d he said in October.\n <\/p>\n \n Bad Bunny has taken it all in stride. In October, he stood on the \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d stage and cheekily told viewers who didn\u2019t know Spanish that they had four months to learn the language.\n <\/p>\n \n On TikTok, many have taken up the challenge, with countless videos of non-Spanish language speakers trying to perfect their pronunciation so they can sing along once he takes the stage.\n <\/p>\n \n Vanessa D\u00edaz, professor and co-author of \u201cP FKN R: How Bad Bunny Became the Global Voice of Puerto Rican Resistance\u201d disputes that language is a barrier to enjoying music, a case she says is made by the fact that Bad Bunny has many English-speaking fans.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cThey still like his music even if they don\u2019t understand it all. His lyrics are important, obviously, but his music is more than just lyrics,\u201d she told celebrity.land. \u201cThe musicality, the messaging in his videos, and in his performances.
