\u201cThe Daily Show\u201d host Michael Kosta wasn\u2019t laughing at Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s latest joke: his talk about canceling the midterm elections<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cYikes! Look, I do get the joy of canceling plans. No one loves bailing on drinks or a work dinner or my kid\u2019s piano recital more than me,\u201d Kosta admitted Tuesday. \u201cBut you can\u2019t cancel elections. Voting is the most American thing you can do besides, well, not voting.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Trump \u201csuggesting that he might cancel the midterms appears to be the inflection point toward a dictatorship from which our nation cannot return. This is serious,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Kosta, though, then cut to footage of White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt insisting the president was joking and, after expressing his relief, pressed on to say he\u2019d \u201clearned my lesson\u201d and would \u201ctake all this much less seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n However, he then cut to reports that Trump wants Republicans<\/a> to take control of elections<\/a> \u2014 something Kosta acknowledged sounds scary.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Still, Kosta said he took \u201csolace\u201d in the idea that \u201cthis is just talk,\u201d arguing that \u201cif Trump was really going to meddle with the midterms, he\u2019d be laying the groundwork by manufacturing evidence that there\u2019s widespread election fraud, and he\u2019s not doing that, right? Right? Right?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Moments later, the show aired a news report on the FBI seizing 2020 election ballots<\/a> from Fulton County, Georgia, as part of a Justice Department investigation into alleged voter fraud in the election that Trump lost to Joe Biden<\/a>, but still falsely claims he won.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cHoly shit!\u201d Kosta said. \u201cI think it\u2019s pretty clear that Trump is not joking about meddling in the election this year.
