Rebecca Ferguson finds it “harrowing and weird” when she’s not recognised.<\/p>\n
The 42-year-old actress has appeared in both the Mission: Impossible and Dune film series as well as The Greatest Showman, but she is convinced she’s not as famous as many of her co-stars and she finds it disconcerting when she’s not treated in the same way.<\/p>\n
She told Harper’s Bazaar magazine: “I think a lot of people wouldn\u2019t verbalise it, because not being recognised and yet working is one of the most incredible things \u2013 but it\u2019s also quite harrowing and weird, because there is an ego-boost to being recognised.<\/p>\n
“Sometimes I have moments where I go, \u2018Why do I not have paparazzi? Why am I not having to be smuggled out the back exit?\u2019<\/p>\n
“The older I get, the more I think, \u2018God, I\u2019m grateful.\u2019 But then you have to deal with walking down a red carpet and it goes silent because you\u2019re not Timothee [Chalamet] or Zendaya.”<\/p>\n
Rebecca revealed she also has a complicated relationship with social media, adding: “I started my [Instagram] account five years ago, but it always felt wrong for me.<\/p>\n
“I\u2019ve been playing with it, posting private images, hating when I did, but loving the recognition, then hating that I\u2019m loving the recognition \u2013 that constant, bloody juxtaposition … “<\/p>\n
The actress also admitted she doesn’t feel particularly comfortable at movie premieres or awards shows as she’s “not good” at socialising with other celebrities.<\/p>\n
She explained: “I don\u2019t know who I am in those environments. I\u2019m not good at sitting and socialising with other celebrities, scurrying on the surface of conversation. I get anxious.”<\/p>\n
It comes after Rebecca declared she can now be more fussy about the roles she signs up for and wants to make sure she can “have a good time on set”.<\/p>\n
She told The Independent: “I\u2019m at a point now where I can choose to not work with d********.<\/p>\n
“I like to have a good time on set, and I like it when people treat the team well. I have no interest in someone walking over people, or sitting with signs going \u2018Don\u2019t talk to me\u2019, or whatever silly nonsense.<\/p>\n
“Everyone has a technique, and I respect people\u2019s technique. Some people are introverts, and some people don\u2019t want to interact. That\u2019s fine \u2013 you don\u2019t have to. But let\u2019s not be idiots about it.”<\/p>\n
Rebecca added that she think the lead actor ought to set the tone on a film set but she acknowledged that this approach can also backfire.<\/p>\n
She said: “If everyone keeps treating the No 1 as a bloody king or a princess, you\u2019re already putting them on a pedestal, rather than seeing all of this as a creative collaboration … F***! God, I get so annoyed by it.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
