Chris Hemsworth<\/a> has opened up about why he\u2019s previously chosen money over artistry in his acting career \u2014 and I think a lot of people will relate to this.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Chris shot to global stardom when he was cast as Thor in 2009, and since then, he\u2019s solidified his status as a true blockbuster star<\/a>, having appeared in eight Marvel movies and a number of other popular film franchises like Men in Black, Ghostbusters<\/a>,<\/i> and Mad Max<\/i><\/a>. In 2019, he was named the second-highest-paid actor in Hollywood by Forbes<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n As you\u2019ll probably know, Chris\u2019s brothers, Liam and Luke Hemsworth<\/a>, also carved out acting careers for themselves, but that\u2019s not to say they came from a showbiz background. Instead, the Hemsworth trio grew up<\/a> far from Hollywood in the Australian outback, where their dad was a social services counselor in child protection, and their mom was a teacher.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n So, having come from a regular, hard-working family, Chris said in a new interview with The Guardian<\/a> that he spent many years navigating his acting career with financial security as his top priority. However, since his dad, Craig, was diagnosed with Alzheimer\u2019s disease<\/a> a few years ago, he\u2019s been re-examining his approach, wanting to pursue personal projects over paychecks.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n \u201cMy appetite for racing forward has really been reined in,\u201d Chris told the outlet, discussing his dad\u2019s diagnosis. \u201cI\u2019ve become more aware of the fragility of things. You start thinking, \u2018My dad won\u2019t be here for ever.\u2019 And my kids are now 11 and 13. Those nights where they\u2019d fight over sleeping in our bed \u2014 suddenly they\u2019re not happening any more.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Looking back on his financially-driven decisions in the past, Chris said: \u201cI\u2019d think, \u2018I came from nothing. Who am I to turn down that kind of money?\u2019 Justifying things that weren\u2019t the purest creative decision, but I\u2019ll be able to pay for my parents\u2019 house, or I\u2019ll be able to help out my cousins.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n It\u2019s no secret that tons of actors take on certain projects purely for money, but to hear Chris talk about it so candidly has impressed fans, who\u2019ve called it a \u201cnatural human response<\/a>\u201d for someone who hasn\u2019t grown up in a super wealthy family.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThat level of authenticity is refreshing,\u201d one Reddit user wrote<\/a>, while someone else described his take as \u201cgrounded and reasonable<\/a>.\u201d \u201cNot everyone is a \u2728thespian\u2728but everyone has to pay bills. If he uses the $ to better his and his family\u2019s financial future, I couldn\u2019t blame him.
