February is Black History Month, and South Florida\u2019s rich cultural diversity makes it a great place to celebrate. Events include a Broward reggae festival and a photo exhibition celebrating Overtown\u2019s history<\/p>\n

Reggae Geneaology<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

Reggae stars including Mr. Vegas will perform and be honored in Plantation for this family-friendly event. Merchants and food vendors will be on hand for the celebration of reggae music and culture.<\/p>\n

This musical celebration of Carnival rhythms at University of Miami\u2019s Gusman Concert Hall features the Frost Studio Jazz Band and the Peter London Global Dance Company. The audience can expect the Coral Gables show to have complex choreography and energizing sounds.<\/p>\n

Music is at the heart of Caribbean culture and this live music performance at P\u00e9rez Art Museum Miami will be a lively one. Miami-based musician Akia \u201cPressure Point\u201d Dorsainvil will perform.<\/p>\n

This photo exhibition at The L.E. Thomas Building showcases how life in Overtown looked in the first half of the 20th century. The Black community was a cultural hotspot in Miami during the time and drew prominent visitors including activistMalcolm X and boxer Muhammad Ali.<\/p>\n

This gospel music event at Florida City\u2019s Loren Roberts Park (545 NW Sixth Ave.) is the latest installment of the Arsht Center\u2019s mobile music program. Attendees will hear a live children\u2019s choir and be encouraged to clap along and participate in the show.<\/p>\n

The event features all-inclusive food and drinks from top chefs including Wayne Sharpe of Jrk! Miami, and a performance from rapper Fat Joe.<\/p>\n
