Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n The new Ryan Murphy<\/a> series tracks the romance of JFK Jr. and Carolyn (played by Paul Anthony Kelly<\/a> and Sarah Pidgeon<\/a> respectively) from the time they meet to their tragic death. Zimmer plays Carolyn’s mother, Ann Messina<\/a>, and opened up at the New York City premiere on Feb. 3 about why channeling the complex emotions that Ann experienced came easily to her.<\/p>\n “At the core, love and grief is universal, so whether you are a mother or aren’t a mother, it’s like, we all can relate to falling in love and the struggles that come with it, and the part of it that is the hardest is the other side of this story,” Zimmer says, referring to the couple’s tragic deaths<\/a> in 1999.<\/p>\n
