The Best of New Music Friday:<\/span><\/h4>\n

J. Cole \u2013 The Fall-Off<\/i><\/h4>\n

<\/p>\n

Though it\u2019s been five years since J. Cole released his most recent official studio album <\/span>The Offseason<\/span><\/i>, his latest venture <\/span>The Fall-Off<\/span><\/i> has been in the works since 2018. The closing track for Cole\u2019s record <\/span>KOD<\/span><\/i> was called \u201c1985 (Intro to The Fall Off).\u201d Ever since, he\u2019s continuously teased this record, saying it would be fiery and the \u201csummit of his mountain.\u201d Now a number of Cole\u2019s fans are saying that <\/span>The Fall-Of<\/span><\/i> is the icon\u2019s magnum opus.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Fall-Off <\/span><\/i>is a triumph by design. It\u2019s a double album, <\/span>and according to Cole, it\u2019ll also be his last<\/span><\/a>. The record\u2019s first part is titled <\/span>Disc 29<\/span><\/i>, which Cole said tells a story of his return to his hometown at age 29. \u201cA decade after moving to New York, accomplishing what would have seemed impossible to most, I was at a crossroads with the 3 loves of my life,\u201d Cole said. They were his romantic interest, his craft and his city. The tone for this album is serious.<\/span><\/p>\n

The record gets loose on its second part, <\/span>Disc 39<\/span><\/i>. \u201cThe Fall-Off Is Inevitable\u201d is a song written to capture listener\u2019s attentions, with Cole rapping about his entire life backwards from coffin to birth in a single unbroken reverse-chronology.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What proves that <\/span>The Fall-Off <\/span><\/i>is a triumph lies in the effort Cole is willing to give at age 41. Despite having it just about all a star could desire in terms of fame and acclaim, Cole writes and mixes his music as if he has something to prove. However, he already has the elements and style to show he\u2019s an expert at his rap craft. J. Cole is an all-time great, and so is the quality of what is apparently his send-off.<\/span><\/p>\n
