When Charlie Puth takes the field to sing the National Anthem at Super Bowl LX, he\u2019ll be carrying a little piece of Jersey with him.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Grammy-nominated singer\/songwriter grew up in Rumson<\/a> and says his Garden State roots are\u00a0central to his creative identity.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew Jersey is the state with the most personalities,\u201d Puth told New Jersey Monthly<\/em><\/a> in a 2023 interview. \u201c<\/span>Growing up around that made me want to have that\u00a0and then some.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That sense of ambition helped propel Puth, 34, from a Jersey kid idolizing local legends like <\/span>Bruce Springsteen<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Jon Bon Jovi<\/span> to a global pop star, and, eventually, to someone who now speaks with those heroes \u201coccasionally over the phone,\u201d says Puth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Puth is also married to a Jersey girl<\/a>, tying the knot with childhood pal Brooke Sansome in fall of 2024. They even shared their first dance to a Meadowlands recording of \u201cJersey Girl\u201d sung by Springsteen.<\/p>\n

Ahead of Sunday\u2019s performance, Puth spoke to the\u00a0<\/span>Associated Press<\/span><\/a> about the unique pressure of singing the Anthem on football\u2019s biggest stage. \u201cThere\u2019s not one stadium that sounds alike,\u201d he says, noting the importance of adjusting to the space. His approach? \u201cYou just make sure you don\u2019t over sing.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For New Jersey fans, Puth\u2019s appearance offers a bit of hometown representation\u2014even if neither the Jets nor the Giants are in the game. (The New England Patriots are facing off against the Seattle Seahawks.) And it places him in rare company: this year marks 35 years since Jersey native Whitney Houston<\/a>\u2019s iconic Super Bowl National Anthem performance, a benchmark still referenced whenever the song is sung on such a massive stage.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Puth\u2019s fourth studio album is set for release March 27, followed by a world tour. This Sunday, though, all eyes\u2014and ears\u2014will be on the Jersey native as he delivers one of the most watched performances of his career.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
