Nick Jonas girlies, the wait is over: Our boy\u2019s new album is here.<\/p>\n

Sunday Best<\/em> \u2014 which dropped at midnight on Friday \u2014 marks Jonas\u2019s first solo project in nearly five years and his fifth solo album overall. The 33-year-old also unveiled the music video<\/a> for the album\u2019s lead single, \u201cGut Punch,\u201d on Friday morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh my god. Sunday Best <\/em>is finally out. I am so excited for you guys to hear this record. Honestly, it\u2019s my favorite solo album I\u2019ve ever made,\u201d Jonas announced in an Instagram post<\/a>. \u201cNow it\u2019s out. And it\u2019s yours. I love this record and the fact that you\u2019re gonna get a window into my world \u2014 but it\u2019s more about what connects us all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sunday Best <\/em>is Jonas at his most assured \u2014 as an artist, husband and father.<\/p>\n

\u201cSunday Best <\/em>is a love letter to my family,\u201d he recently told Spotify<\/a>. \u201cThis album differs in a lot of ways, but the main one is that I\u2019m older now and have a different perspective on life as a father and husband. I\u2019m trying to apply where I\u2019m at to every word and every musical phrase. This time around, I wasn\u2019t focused on writing something that \u2018sounded like a hit,\u2019 but instead on what felt right to me\u2026 what felt honest, true, and real.\u201d<\/p>\n

When conceptualizing Sunday Best<\/em>, Jonas drew inspiration from a YouTube video that his diehard fans likely played on loop: \u201cJealous (Gospel Version).\u201d The clip, which has amassed more than 37 million views, sees Jonas performing the chorus of his 2014 track alongside a gospel choir.<\/p>\n

\u201cBig inspiration for the new album, actually,\u201d Jonas told Hits Radio<\/a> in an interview released last month. \u201cI did this and got to go back and kind of touch on my roots of singing in the church. It was really special for me to lean back into it then, and so [when] I got to the point of making this new album, I really wanted to infuse some choir and gospel elements, and there\u2019s quite a bit on the new album.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHope,\u201d the sixth track on the album, not only inspired the title, Sunday Best<\/em>, but also the overall message Jonas wanted to send with this project.<\/p>\n

\u201cI put pen to paper on those early songs, and the first one was a song called \u2018Hope,\u2019 which is why the album is titled Sunday Best<\/em>,\u201d he told singer-songwriter JP Saxe<\/a> last month. \u201cThere\u2019s this lyric that kind of speaks about the early days of growing up in church and singing in church, and what that meant to me. Although my life with religion has taken a lot of different twists and turns, I feel very rooted in my faith. In my belief in something, in somebody who\u2019s kind of overseeing and has a plan for you.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Jonas, Sunday Best <\/em>is an album that\u2019s more concerned with honesty than it is with putting up a front. Spinning out and feeling lost are part of life.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe record comes at a time for me when I feel most settled in myself,\u201d he also told Saxe, before acknowledging that his single \u201cGut Punch\u201d may sound counterintuitive. \u201cBut that\u2019s part of it. [It\u2019s] knowing the things that make you stronger. That makes you feel like you\u2019re kind of spinning out at times. It\u2019s who you surround yourself with that really helps you traverse those moments in life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jonas began unveiling tracks from the album last November, as part of his \u201cSunday Best Brunch\u201d concert series, during which he played stripped-down versions of songs for select fans in an intimate setting.<\/p>\n

Hours ahead of the album\u2019s release, Jonas played the album in its entirety for a small crowd in New York City. He\u2019s set to perform Sunday Best <\/em>once more from start to finish in Los Angeles on Saturday, and then in Phoenix on Feb. 12.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
