Pop icon Taylor Swift\u2019s The Life of a Showgirl<\/a> era continued on Friday (6 February), when she released the music video for album single ‘Opalite<\/a>‘ on Apple Music and Spotify (it\u2019ll land on YouTube on Sunday).<\/p>\n In addition to the video featuring a Graham Norton Show-based easter egg<\/a> involving the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Cillian Murphy and Domhnall Gleeson, it also included Swift<\/a> having a close friendship with a rock, which hasn\u2019t left beloved Sesame Street<\/a> character Elmo<\/a> all that pleased.<\/p>\n Taking to social media following the video\u2019s release, Elmo wrote: \u201cMs. Taylor Swift\u2026 you have got to be kidding Elmo.\u201d<\/p>\n And for those not familiar with some key Elmo lore, the tweet saw them brand the situation \u201cvagueposting\u201d:<\/p>\n One Swiftie asked: \u201cWhat did she do?\u201d<\/p>\n And another fan account warning the children\u2019s character to \u201cbe careful\u201d:<\/p>\n The necessary context is that Elmo has long had a grudge against a pet rock called Rocco, belonging to fellow Sesame Street character Zoe:<\/p>\n One user wondered when Elmo and Rocco would form a friendship like Swift\u2019s:<\/p>\n Another sided with the puppet and said Rocco featuring \u201cbefore Elmo just feels wrong\u201d:<\/p>\n But one commenter pointed out that with the video ending with Swift ditching the rock to form a new friendship with Gleeson\u2019s character, \u201cthe whole video is a rocco diss track\u201d:<\/p>\n It’s not the first time that Elmo has caused a social media stir, what with him receiving a barrage of responses<\/a> when he asked how everyone on the internet was doing in 2024, and his X\/Twitter account being taken over by hackers<\/a> in July last year.<\/p>\n Why not read\u2026?<\/strong><\/p>\n Sign up<\/strong><\/a> to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter<\/strong><\/p>\n
