{"id":2274021,"date":"2026-02-09T13:43:27","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T13:43:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2274021"},"modified":"2026-02-09T13:43:27","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T13:43:27","slug":"activities-for-littlest-learners-develop-language-skills-entertainment-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/activities-for-littlest-learners-develop-language-skills-entertainment-life\/","title":{"rendered":"Activities for littlest learners develop language skills | Entertainment\/Life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-breakout=\"1\" style=\"position:relative;\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<p>Literacy foundations can be laid at birth, and the New Orleans Public Library is here to help parents and caregivers encourage early literacy through free programming and resources.<\/p>\n<p>Every Wednesday in February, Algiers Regional Library is hosting\u00a0<strong>\u201cArtsy Baby: Hands-On Fun.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Designed for ages 0-2, this playtime program features sensory activities and crafts designed to engage all of your child\u2019s senses to help them learn and grow.<\/p>\n<p>The library is at\u00a03014 Holiday Drive.<\/p>\n<p>The library also hosts three\u00a0<strong>weekly baby storytimes<\/strong>\u00a0designed for newborns to pre-walkers and their caregivers.<\/p>\n<p>Storytimes encourage bonding through books, rhymes\u00a0 and songs in these events, which introduce early literacy skills and encourage language development.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"2\" style=\"position:relative;\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<p>Baby Storytimes are Mondays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Alvar Library,913 Alvar St.; the\u00a0Nix Library, 1401\u00a0S. Carrollton Ave.; and the Smith,\u00a06301 Canal Blvd. They are sponsored by the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library.<\/p>\n<p>Visit<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/%20nolalibrary.org\/early-lit\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0nolalibrary.org\u00a0<\/a>for more information about how the library can help you raise your little reader.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BLACK WOMEN&#8217;S MAGIC:<\/strong> Feminist philosopher Dr. Lindsey Stewart will visit the New Orleans Public Library via Zoom at 1 p.m. on Feb. 12 for a virtual author talk about her book, \u201cThe Conjuring of America: Mojos, Mermaids, Medicine, and 400 Years of Black Women\u2019s Magic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The book tells the stories of the mammies of slavery; the Voodoo queens and blues women of the Reconstruction Era; and the granny midwives and textile weavers of the Jim Crow era.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"3\" style=\"position:relative;\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<p>These women courageously continued their practices and worship for centuries and passed down their traditions.<\/p>\n<p>Stewart uses as sources letters from the enslaved, dispatches from the lore of Oshun and other African mystics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Conjuring of America\u201d has been called a love letter to the magic Black women used, their herbs, food, textiles, song and dance, to offer freedom and hope.<\/p>\n<p>Visit <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/nolalibrary.co\/conjuring%20\" target=\"_blank\">nolalibrary.co\/conjuring<\/a> to register and submit your questions for the author.<\/p>\n<p><strong>INCOME TAX HELP:<\/strong> The library is teaming up with AARP to offer free tax assistance at the Algiers Regional Library, 3014 Holiday Drive, and the Milton H. Latter Memorial Library,\u00a0<span>5120 St. Charles Ave.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"4\" style=\"position:relative;\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<p>Assistance will be offered in Algiers every Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through April 1.<\/p>\n<p>Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome if space is available. Visit <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/nolalibrary.co\/tax-help\" target=\"_blank\">nolalibrary.co\/tax-help<\/a> or call the AARP at (504) 408-2041 for appointments.<\/p>\n<p>Assistance at Latter Library will be offered every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through April 7.
