{"id":2274086,"date":"2026-02-09T14:28:29","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T14:28:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2274086"},"modified":"2026-02-09T14:28:29","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T14:28:29","slug":"live-nation-ticketmaster-lawsuit-club-promoter-tommy-dorfman-has-battled-a-corporate-giant-for-14-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/live-nation-ticketmaster-lawsuit-club-promoter-tommy-dorfman-has-battled-a-corporate-giant-for-14-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Live Nation-Ticketmaster lawsuit: Club promoter Tommy Dorfman has battled a corporate giant for 14 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KOTUZUY6PRE6LCYNMGZJOEADYI\">Fourteen years after he went to war with one of the most powerful corporations in live entertainment, Tommy Dorfman is doing what he needs to do to stay afloat: selling cable and internet door to door in the Boston suburbs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"EZNOTYK725C4BAC2EYORQGJRMQ\">In another era, Dorfman made a career promoting clubs in North Jersey, New York and Miami, booking electronic and house music acts and arranging for celebrities \u2014 from Paris Hilton to the cast of \u201cThe Jersey Shore\u201d \u2014 to appear at nightlife venues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"QAUO6XZ3S5FAPA6PIFQEJPVEP4\">That time is long past.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5KGQZBRCDJCQVIF7ML35DATRUE\">Since 2011, Dorfman and his business partner, Chris Barrett, have been locked in a lawsuit with Live Nation, the multinational events promotion juggernaut and owner of Ticketmaster, one of the world\u2019s largest ticketing services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"I3AF4HV2NZBF3OVYADHSFTATKY\">As Dorfman tells it, he refused Live Nation\u2019s demands to become a partner in an electronic dance music festival he was organizing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"BGJPLLOYXZEDHPVGBA2EX7YRP4\">In retaliation, Dorfman says, Live Nation threatened to withhold access to its ticketing platform and pressure musical artists to avoid performing at the festival. In its efforts to torpedo the event, the company tarnished Dorfman\u2019s reputation, he said, devastating his future in the club and music scenes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"2L62VC64GVBAVOGARBUZI2BBBE\">\u201cI was just wiped out of the whole entire industry,\u201d Dorfman, 49, said. \u201cI lost everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"customEmbed_01\">\n<div class=\"article__custom-image\">\n<div class=\"medium-image\"><\/div>\n<p>Tommy Dorfman, 49, stands in an Arlington, Mass., neighborhood during an afternoon selling cable and internet door to door, Nov. 3, 2025.<span class=\"credits\">\u00a0<!-- -->(Will Katcher\/MassLive)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"WDPD3JGLGFAFDPF4TWIGQ5CXQ4\">Dorfman said the case reflects the monumental power Live Nation holds over the live entertainment industry, and the tactics that have drawn scrutiny from U.S. <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.masslive.com\/news\/2024\/05\/justice-department-sues-ticketmaster-says-company-has-monopoly-on-us-live-events.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">federal prosecutors<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/09\/25\/arts\/music\/ticketmaster-oasis-ticket-prices.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">foreign regulators.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"L3N4HHYGUFFFDK3HOA4A4E3L2M\">The company owns or controls more than 250 music venues across the country, including 60 of the nation\u2019s top 100 amphitheaters. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"QWKLQIJXMJHENLKQZIB6HBIY7E\">It uses its sway to squeeze the venues, performers and other promoters into submission, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/archives\/opa\/pr\/justice-department-sues-live-nation-ticketmaster-monopolizing-markets-across-live-concert\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">2024 antitrust lawsuit<\/a> backed by 30 states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RWHSL3MKZBC6FA2NL32XTWLFZI\">Through its subsidiary Ticketmaster, Live Nation controls ticketing for more than 80% of major concert venues, the Federal Trade Commission said in a separate <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/news-events\/news\/press-releases\/2025\/09\/ftc-sues-live-nation-ticketmaster-engaging-illegal-ticket-resale-tactics-deceiving-artists-consumers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">lawsuit last year<\/a>. The company inflated ticket costs, tacked on hidden fees and employed other \u201cdeceptive pricing tactics\u201d that cost music fans billions of dollars, the FTC said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ASMCCQOFHZD27O3ZMA2IKKTCGQ\">Because of the company\u2019s dominance, Americans pay more for tickets than music fans abroad, the Justice Department said, arguing the time has come to break up Live Nation-Ticketmaster.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DZ4M4Q6OFZACPBAG34KOU3LDRI\">The company denies Dorfman\u2019s allegations and has contested his lawsuit and the federal government\u2019s legal actions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"EALHXE7CMFFBJOOLQX74AQ2CBA\">Live Nation argues Dorfman has scapegoated the company for his team\u2019s inability to pull off production of a large-scale new music festival. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7J2FDN7SORALNNL3IQSO3BV2CY\">With mediation failing to bring the sides to a settlement, the case has dragged on for years, inching toward a trial that now seems inevitable.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"article-heading\">A career ends, a fight begins<\/h2>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MUUG42RXYRBRVBHU77Q54H3SOY\">Within months of the dispute beginning, Dorfman was living in his car, the festival plan and his career in tatters. The lawsuit became a necessity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"XRRZKOXJKVGBBCQBKN5ZJXG4GI\">At first, Dorfman just wanted his livelihood back. But as the case stretched on for a decade and a half, his mission changed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"WORZ5RMJFVFAXK7G4NEOGCXCKM\">Now, Dorfman wants to go to trial and show how live music\u2019s corporate titan maintains a grip on the industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"GJF6P6WXEFGEDJIOUVFKKYHGLY\">\u201cI love the music industry, but the scene\u2019s been destroyed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HSXIIFBSSNEELH6BDMEIWDJJWQ\">Yet to win, Dorfman needs money. He is up against a defendant that reported $23 billion in revenue in 2024, enough to hire an army of attorneys. Dorfman said he has a single lawyer on his side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KX2YOQTK4NEINHV7HGXWXCXJBI\">On a cool, cloudy weekday last fall, Dorfman traversed a leafy street of duplexes in Arlington. Massachusetts. Of the rest, most seemed uninterested in what he was selling or needed to check with their significant other before dumping their internet and television bundle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"UIJXNX7Z3BGONGJTI5RWIEIOEI\">More often than not, Dorfman was met with rejection. Under an overcast sky, he walked on.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"article-heading\">\u2018Everybody knew Tommy D\u2019<\/h2>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PVL6RJQWAJCSDGAJXAOBD2CJFE\">When he grew up in West Milford, a rural New Jersey community on the border of New York\u2019s Hudson Valley, Dorfman loved all kinds of music. His father took him to a wide variety of shows: Prince, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna and more.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"4QOWJ5AKFFHBTK6NDR64H2JLZ4\">But Dorfman gravitated toward electronic dance music above all else.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KRYY2RZL75ECZMJOMUJOKKIR7Q\">Living on his own from the age of 16 onward, he kept afloat by throwing underground house parties. He hired DJs, bought kegs of beer with a fake ID and charged for entry. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"OHI4QV75YBFWNJLLZYOI5GTZTU\">Hooked by the party lifestyle and thumping, bass-heavy music, Dorfman continued booking larger and more popular venues. Step by step, he built a career promoting clubs and their parties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"EWSH7GGDHVEOBHP3I3ML57DTXY\">\u201cEverybody knew Tommy D,\u201d said Mario LaVecchia, 65, a New Jersey club and restaurant owner who met Dorfman around 2009.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3PT74PQAGVAMHD2PHDTPX6DWQY\">LaVecchia was amazed by the young promoter\u2019s ability to pack a venue or secure a big-name celebrity appearance, drawing crowds who wanted to party in proximity to fame.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"2TLBYKC6DJGP7MIJYK3KPVAWY4\">The decor of Dorfman\u2019s office walls today tells the story of his fast, thrilling past.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"X5AKQ6LYOJHAVOYEIQ67DWV56Q\">In one photo, Snoop Dogg leans on Dorfman\u2019s shoulder at a birthday party. Behind him, he poses with Snoop Dogg in a photo hanging on the wall.<span class=\"credits\">\u00a0<!-- -->(Will Katcher\/MassLive)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"IOD3XNXZJBGNLHUYIEMZTCPFOE\">In late 2010, according to Dorfman, he and a business partner were in discussions with operators of a New Jersey fair to produce an electronic dance music festival the next summer on the fairgrounds, at the Meadowlands complex in East Rutherford.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"FW4KC4OBQFFF5PDOTVYDPQV2L4\">\u201cElectronic music was a bubbling underground and soon-to-be mainstream music,\u201d Mike Ma, legal director for Dorfman\u2019s company, Juice Entertainment, said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7EMOLJYRLNHONFCUBVPXOVJCUU\">The new contract would also give them the rights to produce concerts at the fair\u2019s event space for years to come.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"YDR5SUKPMFEGBB5X4UBN6EKPHI\">Dorfman said he was in negotiations with acclaimed acts such as Dutch DJ Ti\u00ebsto and French DJ David Guetta to perform.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6WASVE6355AEXHS3KNNHLZQTGI\">Live Nation caught wind of the deal and set out to scuttle it, Dorfman said. Terrill, File)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KQ4GAB2DSVG3LDXIUHKK3F2EEE\">Live Nation already had the rights to provide ticketing services for events at the Meadowlands, Dorfman said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MUXDEPEX75H5JJDKU6NDBZKPBA\">According to him, the company threatened that unless it was allowed to join in producing the fairground concerts and therefore share in the profits, it would cut off ticketing for the events. The company said it would block musicians from performing at Dorfman\u2019s festival, his lawsuit said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"T7ZN3PECIFATNGJ42USXN2J2NU\">Live Nation was \u201cdictating terms,\u201d Dorfman said. He didn\u2019t budge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"IQMYLDPYZFADJA546FFO6XQRMY\">Seemingly overnight, his negotiations with artists to perform evaporated. Talent agencies would no longer answer his phone calls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"WU4MEYYWK5E3LJV3Y6LEC6BSYU\">Unable to live up to his end of the contract with the fair, the event crumbled, along with his hopes of producing years of music festivals on the fairgrounds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ANXD3CU65RA2BCJ53EPIWTRUQY\">Dorfman and his business partner <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/news\/2011\/12\/two_nj_concert_promoters_sue_l.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">filed a lawsuit<\/a> on Dec. 16, 2011, in the U.S. District Court of New Jersey, accusing Live Nation of defamation and interference with their contract and business relationships. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HMLXKYY2QFDJDJFYTYCNIH4O2E\">Fourteen years later, he hopes a trial may be near.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SY6F7ZOOONAXXAGEHCVKHHVJFY\">\u201cHe\u2019s David, trying to take down Goliath,\u201d LaVecchia said. \u201cAnd he will.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"article-heading\">Staying afloat, one door knock after another<\/h2>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"T2S3KVAEI5GUHCF6L3J53VSO54\">Dorfman is a salesman at heart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DYGX6IOK6NCCNB7XGUBX2PH6IE\">In 2012, with a lawsuit in motion and his entertainment career in shambles, he took a job going door to door generating leads for window and roof replacements. A few years later, now living outside Boston, Dorfman switched to selling cable and internet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HTZRTBB5SNARLGFGUIRGZOGN7Y\">At each home he visits on a weekday last fall, Dorfman knocks and waits, waving every few moments at the dark windows and peepholes on closed doors, trying to project a warm demeanor to whoever may be contemplating answering.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PQG5EDQQNFCW7MKPSOUZVDWDHE\">If the door cracks open, he is off to the races.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"45I7IWMIIBB57JSSNBY24U2SS4\">\u201cHi there, I\u2019m Tommy \u2014 and your name?&#8221; Dorfman says. When clubs let out at daybreak, he\u2019d be there to spread the word on his next event. He learned not to take offense when clubgoers, stumbling out into the morning light, slapped fliers back in his face.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"L7WTLJM7LBGAJHT2H6UPN3FROM\">Dorfman\u2019s current workday can stretch 10 or 12 hours, he said. He tends not to break for lunch. On weekends, he\u2019s out from midmorning through to dinner time. In the winter, he dresses warmer and keeps knocking.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"LNFHQAXYVRC57LTE5CITU5GQDU\">\u201cHe\u2019s nonstop,\u201d LaVecchia said. \u201cWhen he had a club to fill, he never slept.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"FDSFNITKYJBCXLEA3NKWZTZ7FA\">On one weekday last fall, Dorfman\u2019s first customer of the afternoon comes to the door in fuzzy, sea green slippers. Dorfman introduces himself and makes his pitch, and she has questions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"W2BXAGVHAVEYJKVDF6ZCJY7DM4\">What would the monthly charges be? What does she do if the current internet provider bills her for a cancellation fee? Does the installation involve any new wiring?<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6MW2OJEDB5BY7DQKVYHNCO23YA\">She\u2019s interested, and Dorfman promises to check back in that night when her husband is home. But as major hearings approach, it eats into his daytime business as well. In those stretches, he said he may sleep just two hours some nights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"LDFIHZ72CBATHCPYHO45HVQF4Q\">\u201cOur counsel is a mom and pop shop,\u201d said Ma, the legal director for Dorfman\u2019s company, though not his litigator for the lawsuit. <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gtlaw.com\/en\/general\/our-firm\/firm-history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">Live Nation\u2019s law firm<\/a> claims 3,000 attorneys spread across 50 offices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SYMDJG5PIZGAPOVU2PBRL4QIKI\">Dorfman declined to disclose the details of any past settlement discussions with Live Nation, citing the privacy of mediation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"NVUZQGCPAZCFDA3SUZMAV36RFU\">The plaintiffs are confident in their case. But they worry the aging or death of a witness could be detrimental.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"IZ5AI5ZAPVDWFKXNBBZMZHZFW4\">\u201cWhen we started the case, most of these guys were already in their 60s,\u201d Ma said. \u201cThey\u2019re nightclub kids. None of them are vegetarians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"Z3Q6F37BRBFBZERDFPY6QU4GYI\">\u201cI just never anticipated to still be doing this 15 years later,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"VLAYF5FYGVEMDIHX76RBAMQARQ\">The defendants are confident in their side, too. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"K7BXLHK655F4TPK5WIXPUSCHIQ\">Live Nation says Dorfman and his associates failed on their own merits to sign the artists they needed to put on the 2011 music festival. They blamed Live Nation for their shortcomings, the company argues in court documents, and concocted a \u201cwholly fantastic story\u201d that the company defamed them and blocked the artists from performing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"BVWJIKDAXVB37HPCQJRZY7LTP4\">In a 2018 ruling, Judge William H. Walls dismissed Dorfman\u2019s claim that Live Nation interfered with his contract with the fair operators. The judge allowed his defamation and interference-with-a-business-relationship claims to proceed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"4P6WOSGBQJC43JEU5FQTNGPSE4\">However, Walls ruled that Dorfman could not seek \u201clost profit\u201d damages at trial. He found that although Dorfman and his business partner had produced events in the club scene, they did not have a proven track record of producing festival-scale events, beyond a 2010 Latin music festival that lost money.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"QFECHJ5H4JCDVN4ZPEZUJGFAGY\">Therefore, Walls ruled, it was \u201ctoo remote and speculative\u201d to say that any potential defamation by Live Nation resulted in them losing future profits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"OOJA46IPPBFIPAWIURQE7LFRTE\">The case does not yet have a trial date. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3BMEV2JJZZGTTKK56ADWVUIJWY\">The parties last appeared in court on Nov. 18 for an evidentiary hearing and are awaiting a judge\u2019s decision on which evidence to allow in the proceedings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"CJWDM3NLHFAGPNZL26F44F62YI\">\u201cEventually, we\u2019ll get a trial. But I see no evidence currently that gives me any real expectations,\u201d Ma said. \u201cAt this point, it\u2019s absolutely impossible to deny us a trial. Submitted three years after expert reports in Dorfman\u2019s case were due, the judge ruled it could not be used in the case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"H5TOZY3BMFELPDWZ7OXPEOFWFQ\">But in 2024, U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, a New Jersey Democrat pushing for stricter oversight of Live Nation, uncovered an unredacted copy of the report in the federal court records of Dorfman\u2019s case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HCKBE5MVCVFWND37UQKOQZXTS4\">Pascrell published the material and shared it with federal regulators and congressional colleagues investigating Live Nation. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SRPJEYNYDZEELLXS7DXQQKB6NE\">In an antitrust lawsuit filed in May 2024, two months after Pascrell released the report, the Justice Department accused Live Nation of running an illegal monopoly of the concert industry. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"OTIZOSWKKFDMPNSGNIBHZXOE2I\">The Biden administration sought to undo the 2010 merger that brought together the two giants of concert promotion and ticketing sides of live entertainment. At the time, consumer groups had <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/01\/26\/business\/26ticket.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">lobbied hard against the merger.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6GQY5RZBWZDTRCK6SHWQOOQ43Q\">Live Nation denies it is a monopoly or has abused its power in the entertainment industry. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"XLRQFJYELJFODHVE7NPXNV4CBI\">Instead, it said its success can be attributed to its ability to manage hundreds of artists, promote thousands of shows and distribute tickets to concerts around the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"V2XNZEVFBZC53AD5JHD4MBGQ5Y\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.livenation.com\/news\/update-breaking-down-the-doj-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\" title=\"https:\/\/newsroom.livenation.com\/news\/update-breaking-down-the-doj-lawsuit\/\">The company says<\/a> it is not to blame for rising ticket prices, which can be blamed on the growing cost of event production, artist popularity and audiences\u2019 willingness to pay more for tickets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"LAZCKNZECBCZ3ISXMPPIGBA73Q\">The government\u2019s pressure on Live Nation and Ticketmaster continued under President Trump. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"YYHBM32YTVCFRBBTJGBGT5LQO4\">The antitrust case is scheduled to go to trial in March.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"GGHFG5FNVVBGLJSMMB7ZRRRCUQ\">In September, the Federal Trade Commission and a bipartisan group of state attorneys general also <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/news-events\/news\/press-releases\/2025\/09\/ftc-sues-live-nation-ticketmaster-engaging-illegal-ticket-resale-tactics-deceiving-artists-consumers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">sued Live Nation<\/a>, accusing it of falsely advertising lower ticket prices on Ticketmaster than what consumers must pay. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"LCU5JKYSQVADVKKLBI2OLUPGLY\">The company secretly allowed ticket resellers to circumvent the limits that consumers face on how many tickets they can buy for an event. The brokers could then place the tickets back on Ticketmaster\u2019s resale market at a higher price, allowing both them and the company to substantially profit, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/news-events\/news\/press-releases\/2025\/09\/ftc-sues-live-nation-ticketmaster-engaging-illegal-ticket-resale-tactics-deceiving-artists-consumers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/news-events\/news\/press-releases\/2025\/09\/ftc-sues-live-nation-ticketmaster-engaging-illegal-ticket-resale-tactics-deceiving-artists-consumers\">according to the Federal Trade Commission<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"K674JZ4QUNGFLADJATJAIMQZCQ\">\u201cTo the average ticketbuyer, Ticketmaster is a dirty word,\u201d said <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/entertainment\/music\/2012\/01\/john_scher_four_decades_of_bri.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/entertainment\/music\/2012\/01\/john_scher_four_decades_of_bri.html\">John Scher, a famed veteran concert promoter<\/a> who worked with the Grateful Dead, the Rolling Stones and numerous other stars.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"77OCJD4QXBDITG5J4PUTE6KUGM\">By dominating the market for large arena and amphitheater shows, ticketing, management and event promotion, Live Nation and Ticketmaster exert tremendous sway over the market price for concert tickets, which has far outpaced the average music fan\u2019s budget, Scher said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ASGGTKYCJRCXJAOCNP5MAMRIKY\">Scher once promoted 30 to 40 arena concerts per year, including at the Meadowlands, Madison Square Garden and some of the other largest stages in the country, he said.
