The Delmarva Christian girls\u2019 basketball team played its final home game of the regular season Feb. 7, walking away with a 35-22 win over Salisbury School for its seniors.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s been a down year for a program that\u2019s been a shoe-in for the ESIAC Conference Championship every year. Injuries to key players have taken their toll, but on Senior Night, the focus was on the now-healthy elder trio.<\/p>\n
\u201cEva [Elliott], she’s an all-around player,\u201d said coach Frank Roach.\u00a0\u201cShe can rebound, pass and shoot on occasion, but she’s the brains of the operation. Then we got the active part of the operation with Riley [Barto], so she\u2019ll get a little fouly and handsy, but she’s gonna bring intensity and move the ball. Eve [Bohinski has a] down-low presence [and is a] rebounder, shot blocker and defensive anchor. They all do some different things that help us.\u201d<\/p>\n
The three girls were honored before the victory.<\/p>\n
\u201cExcited, nervous and a little bit sad because this is the last time I’ll ever be able to touch this court,\u201d Bohinski said.<\/p>\n
Positivity from the fans quickly took the place of the whirlwind of emotions the girls were feeling.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe energy was definitely hype,\u201d Barto said.<\/p>\n
For Elliott, it was a unique experience in that her dad, Brandon, is an assistant coach and her sister, Mia, used to play with the senior prior to her 2024 graduation.<\/p>\n
Delmarva Christian went to work early and made the win a comfortable one.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe definitely could have beat them last time, but there was some stuff going on, so I’m glad we got to like lock in fully, and we all really did leave everything out on the court tonight,\u201d Bohinski said.<\/p>\n
Elliott, who recently came off a minutes restriction due to injury, was back in her element.<\/p>\n
\u201cReally happy that I was able to be in that position and be there,\u201d Elliott said.<\/p>\n
Barto had her own injury obstacle to hurdle.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got cleared 30 minutes before the game from an injury to play today, and so I was really hyped and excited,\u201d Barto said. \u201cI had a lot of family coming out, so I wanted to be able to play one last game here.\u201d<\/p>\n
At full strength, the girls were fully in command and back to their identity.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe’re just gonna be who we’ve been before injuries,\u201d Roach said. \u201cWe have to get back to pressuring the ball, get back to trapping and just mucking up the game.\u201d<\/p>\n
