Rosanna Arquette<\/strong> revealed that she wasn\u2019t invited to the Hollywood premiere of her breakout film 40 years ago. During a Feb. 10 appearance on\u00a0Sirius XM\u2019s Andy Cohen Live,<\/a> the actress explained the \u201cweird\u201d situation regarding the opening night for her 1985 movie Desperately Seeking Susan.<\/p>\n The Susan<\/strong> Seidelman<\/strong>-directed film starred Arquette as bored New Jersey housewife Roberta Glass, and Madonna<\/a><\/strong> as free-spirited drifter Susan. The film was released in April 1985, months after Madonna\u2019s hit album Like a Virgin dropped, and it featured the soundtrack song \u201cInto the Groove.\u201d \u00a0The movie also marked Madonna\u2019s acting debut.<\/p>\n \u201cWhile [Madonna] became so huge, they decided to make the movie around her. Which of course, made sense to make money, right?\u201d Arquette, 66, told podcast host Andy Cohen<\/a><\/strong>. \u201cBut, they didn\u2019t invite me to the Hollywood premiere of Desperately Seeking Susan.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI was here in New York doing this. Like, press. …And so I was like \u2018what?\u2019\u201d the actress recalled. \u201cThat was weird\u2026 It was very strange. But then you find out why that happened, the management\u00a0 \u2026they made a thing about it because it ended up being [her movie]. But\u00a0 that\u2019s okay, I won a British Academy [Film] Award.\u201d<\/p>\n Arquette previously downplayed any drama between her and Madonna, telling The Daily Beast<\/a> in 2021 that while she hadn\u2019t spoken to the singer in years, she followed her on social media.<\/p>\n \u201cI wish her well,\u201d she said, adding that the release of the movie \u201ccoincided with the\u00a0exploooosion, volcano, eruption\u00a0of Madonna.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cShe suddenly was the biggest thing in the world, and then the movie came out,\u201d Arquette said. \u201cIt happened to the point where they had a big premiere in L.A. for the movie, and they decided to have me do press in L.A. and\u00a0not\u00a0come to the premiere. \u00a0\u2026I didn\u2019t understand the politics of how things are and thought, \u2018Well, this is s—ty.\u201d But it was all marketing. They thought they could make more money if they focused on Madonna at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n Arquette has expressed interest in filming a Desperately Seeking Susan sequel. In 2024, she was a guest on the Girls on Film podcast<\/a>, where she admitted she had long wondered what became of Roberta, Susan, and Roberta\u2019s lover, Dez (Aidan Quinn<\/strong>).<\/p>\n \u201cI always had a fantasy about what happened to them?\u201d Arquette said of the movie\u2019s characters. \u201cWho are they now?\u00a0 It would be so great to make that movie. And see where everybody ends up. Do Dez and her stay together?
