Shakespeare\u2019s A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream<\/em> gets an unexpected twist this February as Covenant Theatre reimagines the beloved romantic comedy in an Appalachian forest of the late 1800s, complete with live, student-composed music.<\/p>\n Running February 18-21, 2026, this production features a cast and creative team of more than 30 student artists. Blending magic, mischief, and mistaken identity in a setting designed to welcome Shakespeare newcomers while delighting longtime fans, ages 8 and up will enjoy this tale of four young lovers looking to escape parental authority and be with the person they love.<\/p>\n Director Frank Mihelich said of the production concept, \u201cWhen staging Shakespeare, we always look for ways to make 400-year-old plays resonate with a contemporary audience. As a transplant to Chattanooga from California, I\u2019ve become fascinated with Appalachian history. In learning about the<\/p>\n Hatfield and McCoys, I discovered a long-time feud similar to the one that shapes A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream.<\/em> I also loved the idea of including historical music from the region, and a reference to our location on Lookout Mountain.\u201d<\/p>\n
