However, that wasn\u2019t always the case in New York. Just 90-100 years ago,\u00a0mallards\u00a0were not known to breed in New York State. Since the ban of live decoys in the 1930s,\u00a0mallards\u00a0have been released and taken over as the preeminent duck of the northern Atlantic flyway. After all-time highs in the early 2000s, eastern\u00a0mallards have significantly declined. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"scaip scaip-1    \">\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<aside>\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<p>New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and 21 other partner agencies and NGOs have set out to understand what may be driving these declines. Join wildlife biologist Josh Stiller, who coordinates the statewide migratory and upland game bird program for NYSDEC, for a webinar on the topic on Feb. 12.<\/p>\n<p>This event is free and open to the public. The\u00a0Banff\u00a0program, including the intermission, is approximately three hours.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s selection of six films from four countries showcases more than two hours of cinematography telling stories that reflect a wide range of\u00a0mountain\u00a0experiences and portraits from\u00a0mountain\u00a0sports, culture and\u00a0environment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are $28 in advance and $35 at the door. In 2026, all of these holidays fall on Feb. 17.<\/p>\n<p>Following sunset at 5:45 p.m., attendees will be invited to share a communal meal featuring\u00a0Chinese dishes and Ramadan and Mardi Gras desserts, encouraging fellowship and cultural appreciation.
