Kaser discovered that his identity had been stolen and someone had used his information to make hundreds of purchases, including buying the band\u2019s entire discography on Bandcamp.<\/p>\n<p>The band found the culprit, a young fan who said he believed the music contained hidden codes forming an scavenger hunt he\u2019d successfully completed. But rather than getting the police involved, they recorded him describe the intricate mythology he\u2019d imagined.<\/p>\n<p>When beginning work on a follow-up to \u2018<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/lip-critic-band-hex-dealer-vinyl-tracklist-review-radar-3755655\">Hex Dealer<\/a>\u2019, Lip Critic decided to take influence from the alternate universe the fan invented, creating the album he believed already existed.<\/p>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_3929137\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3929137\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3929137\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u2018Theft World\u2019 album art. CREDIT: Press<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2019Theft World\u2019 is an ode to the power and pervasiveness of stealing,\u201d said the band of the album. \u201cIt\u2019s about taking something ugly and using it to make something cute. It\u2019s about eating an absurd world and falling in love with it as you digest.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The \u2018Theft World\u2019 tracklist is:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>\u2018Two Lucks\u2019<\/strong><br \/><strong>\u2018Jackpot\u2019<\/strong><br \/><strong>\u2018Debt Forest\u2019<\/strong><br \/><strong>\u2018Talon\u2019<\/strong><br \/><strong>\u2018Charity Dinner\u2019<\/strong><br \/><strong>\u2018Drumming With Izzy\u2019<\/strong><br \/><strong>\u2018My Blush (Strength Of The Critic)\u2019<\/strong><br \/><strong>\u2018Shoplifting\u2019<\/strong><br \/><strong>\u2018Legs In A Snare\u2019<\/strong><br \/><strong>\u2018My Wife And The Goblin\u2019<\/strong><br \/><strong>\u2018Yard Sale (230 Take)\u2019<\/strong><br \/><strong>\u2018200 Bottles Of Eviction\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Upon the release of \u2018Hex Dealer\u2019 two years ago, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/lip-critic-band-hex-dealer-vinyl-tracklist-review-radar-3755655\"><em>NME<\/em> gave it a glowing five-star review, describing it as \u201cbold, energetic and blisteringly smart\u201d<\/a>. The review read: \u201cThroughout \u2018Hex Dealer\u2019, Lip Critic prove why they are the band of the moment. A full-on, disruptive force emerging from their city\u2019s underground scene \u2013 their music rides high on a bolt of infectious energy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Their debut UK show in 2023 <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/live\/lip-critic-band-partisan-live-in-london-review-setlist-radar-3542315\">also received five stars<\/a>, being described as \u201clike three or four bands rolled into one; the fervid hardcore thrashers, the hip-shaking dance heads, the sardonic post-punks \u2013 and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, Kaser <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/the-cover\/the-cover-lip-critic-interview-the-heart-2-3584829\">discussed the gig with <em>NME<\/em><\/a>. \u201cWe went as hard as we possibly could,\u201d he recalled. \u201cI was sweating so much, I felt like I had stepped in a shower with all my clothes on. I spilled a bottle of water directly over a power strip, and somehow it kept going. It really was a fun show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kaser also tried to define the band\u2019s style, explaining: \u201cIt\u2019s hyper-eclectic, accelerated pop music, really. It\u2019s obviously got a hardcore and punk tilt; we\u2019re not doing anything too complex in terms of song forms, they\u2019re short and hard-hitting. But you never know what sound is going to pop up next \u2013 our focus is to not get pinned down into a set of aesthetics, but to stay nimble and keep it natural.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cIt felt like we were a little too goofy for the hardcore scene and a little too hardcore for the more poppy electronic world. We fell into a weird middle ground by being very uncompromising, aesthetically.
