King Charles and Queen Camilla have been told the glittering
\nshow they plan to put on for the President of Nigeria\u2019s State Visit
\ncould be impacted after one set of officials said they would
\nprovide \u201donly the basics\u201d in a row about money.<\/p>\n

The Royal Borough of Windsor and
\nMaidenhead<\/a>, where Windsor Castle is located, said it had paid
\nout a six figure sum in 2025 to support State Visits and it
\ncouldn\u2019t afford to keep doing that without reimbursement from
\ncentral government.<\/p>\n

Windsor Castle is now the setting for incoming State Visits as
\nBuckingham Palace is undergoing repair work to many of the areas
\nusually used for high level trips. In 2025,
\nKing Charles<\/a> and Queen Camilla hosted US President, Donald
\nTrump, at Windsor as well as Emmanuel Macron, President of France
\nand Franz Walter Steinmeier, President of Germany.the u<\/p>\n

The costs to the Royal Borough of Windsor and
\nMaidenhead\u00a0were put at around \u00a3350,000 for its support work
\nduring the three visits.<\/p>\n

The council told the BBC that \u201dwhile we appreciate the wider
\nimpact this may have for our multi-agency partners, with planning
\nalready under way for the visit in March by the president of
\nNigeria, we don\u2019t have a budget for this support.\u201d<\/p>\n

And it added \u201dlocal taxpayers can\u2019t continue to be expected to
\nshoulder the burden of decisions made by government to host state
\nvisits in Windsor.\u201d<\/p>\n

The deputy leader of the council, Lynne Jones, said it was time
\nthat the government gave reassurances that costs will be
\nreimbursed. And she added that the council would only do \u201dthe
\nbasics\u201d for the next State Visit which is set to get underway in
\nMarch when the President of Nigeria arrives in Windsor.<\/p>\n

The issue has already been raised in the House of Commons by the
\nMP for Maidenhead, Joshua Reynolds, who asked when the costs
\nincurred by the council would be given back to it. He was told that
\nthe bill has usually been picked up by a number of departments and
\nmatters were currently under review.<\/p>\n

State Visits are seen as a vital part of diplomacy with The
\nKing, as Head of State, welcoming other Head of State on the advice
\nof the government. The focus of a State Visit is to improve
\nrelations between the two countries involved and the nations
\ninvited are chosen by the government, not the Monarch.<\/p>\n

Work undertaken by the council for State Visits includes closing
\nroads and car parks to allow the traditional carriage procession to
\ntake place and to facilitate security.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the State Visit by German President, Franz Walter
\nSteinmeier, the council warned it couldn\u2019t keep paying for work
\ninvolved in such trips.<\/p>\n

Now, it says that the money it has spent in the past year could
\nhave paid the salaries of nine primary school teachers and it has
\nagain raised concerns that its residents are paying for the
\nevent.<\/p>\n
