In November 2013, Paul Walker<\/strong> \u2014 who played Lance Harbor in the football drama \u2014\u00a0 died in a tragic single-car accident<\/span><\/a> and explosion in Southern California. He was 40 years old.<\/p>\n

The Fast and the Furious<\/i> actor\u2019s cause of death was the combined effects of \u201ctraumatic and thermal\u201d injuries from the car crash.<\/p>\n

Three years later, the Varsity Blues<\/i> cast mourned the death of Ron Lester<\/strong>. The actor, who played Billy Bob in the beloved movie \u2014 died after<\/span><\/a> battling liver and kidney problems.<\/p>\n

In February 2026, the Varsity Blues<\/i> cast said goodbye to another cast member when news broke that James Van Der Beek<\/span><\/a><\/strong> had died at 48<\/span><\/a> after being diagnosed with stage III colorectal cancer.<\/p>\n

Paul Walker tragically lost his life in a car accident while attending a charity event for his organization, Reach Out Worldwide.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a passenger in a friend\u2019s car, in which both lost their lives,\u201d the organization said in a statement at the time. \u201cWe appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news.\u201d<\/p>\n

James Van Der Beek was one of the first Varsity Blues<\/i> stars to pay tribute to Walker online.<\/p>\n

Ron Lester died in June 2016 from organ failure, his agent shared via Facebook at the time. He was 45.<\/p>\n

The Georgia-born actor had been hospitalized for nearly four months with liver and kidney problems before he died peacefully with his fianc\u00e9e by his side.<\/p>\n
