Sarah Ferguson is hands down one of the most scandalous members of the royal family. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

But in the new ITV miniseries The Lady<\/i>, streaming locally on BINGE<\/a> from February 23, it\u2019s not her antics that are put under the microscope but that of her former royal aide, Jane Andrews.<\/p>\n

Based on true events, the partly fictionalised drama follows the rags to riches story of Jane (played by Mia McKenna Bruce), a working class girl who responded to an anonymous job ad in a magazine called The Lady. <\/p>\n

Little did she know that the job she applied for was to become the Duchess of York\u2019s (Natalie Dormer) dresser at Buckingham Palace.<\/p>\n

Much to the surprise of her family and friends, Jane quickly secures her place in the social circles of Britain while developing a strong bond with Fergie. <\/p>\n

However, after nine years of loyalty and service, palace cutbacks in 1997 saw her job made redundant.<\/p>\n

Still reeling from her termination, Jane meets and falls in love with charismatic businessman Thomas Cressman (Ed Speleers), of whom she grows extremely attached. <\/p>\n

So when that relationship also appears to be on the outs, Jane spirals and takes drastic measures with deadly consequences. <\/p>\n

At the heart of the four-part series will be Jane\u2019s relationship with the Duchess.The pair form a firm friendship and Jane becomes Fergie\u2019s close confidante. <\/p>\n

Fergie even reportedly nicknamed her \u201cLady Jane\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Jane Andrews was tried for the murder of Thomas Cressman in 2001 it made headlines around the world,\u201d The Lady<\/i>\u2019s writer and executive producer Debbie O\u2019Malley said in a recent interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut behind those headlines lay a much more complex, painful and thought-provoking story \u2013 an exploration of female ambition and human frailty and a devastating chain of events that ended in the taking of a man\u2019s life.<\/p>\n
