Acadian Thruway, Baton Rouge<\/p>\n<p>$19.17 in advance<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.midcityballroom.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">midcityballroom.com<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/temptressofficial.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">temptressofficial.com<\/a><\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Honing its heavy sound since 2019, Temptress blends solid songwriting with gnarly riffs and punk-rock power.<\/p>\n<p>Following the January release of its second album, Temptress begins a 21-city Southern tour next week. The band plays Mid City Ballroom in Baton Rouge on Thursday, Feb. 19, and Siberia in New Orleans the night after.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"2\" style=\"position:relative;\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m super excited,\u201d Temptress singer-guitarist Kelsey Wilson said. \u201cWe\u2019re playing a lot of places that I have not been to. Whenever we play down there (in Louisiana), we play with a local band and always get a good response.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Temptress gets linked to a gamut of rock subgenres \u2014 metal, thrash, doom, stoner-doom, alternative-rock, post-hardcore, post-rock. The band\u2019s New Mexico-based record label, Blues Funeral Records, colorfully describes its music as a \u201cmolten sonic blend that flows and obliterates like a liquid metal assassin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wilson has a less hyperbolic description for Temptress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen people ask us, I just say we play heavy rock \u2019n\u2019 roll. It\u2019s not complicated,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"3\" style=\"position:relative;\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<p>Temptress features Wilson with drummer and singer Andi Cuba, the other woman in the group, and bassist and singer Christian Wright. The group briefly was a four-piece band featuring Wilson, Wright, Cuba and guitarist Erica Pipes. Wilson, Cuba and Pipes previously played together in the all-female punk-metal band Tricounty Terror.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Temptress - These Walls (Official  Music Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/feLgU04mTCI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe could never find a solid bass player,\u201d Wilson said of Tricounty Terror\u2019s demise in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of it, too,\u201d Cuba added, \u201cwas that Kelsey and I wanted to play different music. We weren\u2019t into the aggressive, yelling, angry kind of thing. We knew what we wanted to do, and the only way to do that was to start something new. That\u2019s where Temptress came in.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"4\" style=\"position:relative;\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<p>Unlike Tricounty Terror, the Dallas-based Temptress quickly found a dependable, experienced bassist. Alabama native Wright, a musician since childhood, played guitar in a Dallas folk-punk band before joining Temptress.<\/p>\n<p>Wright\u2019s bass fell in naturally with Wilson\u2019s guitar and Cuba\u2019s drums.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re both ear players,\u201d he said. \u201cI hate to say it\u2019s like a jam band, but that\u2019s what I\u2019m talking about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did our first tour as a three-piece and found a really cool sound,\u201d Wilson agreed. \u201cIt\u2019s organic as it could be.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Temptress - Edge (Official Music Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tk22ducg4TY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>All three members of Temptress write songs as well as sing. That musical depth expands the group\u2019s sonic potential far beyond, for instance, a band with a lead singer-songwriter-guitarist backed by a rhythm section.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"5\" style=\"position:relative;\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<p>\u201cThat makes us unique,\u201d Cuba said. \u201cI\u2019ve heard a lot of people say, \u2018Man, y\u2019all just sound different.\u2019 We have three viewpoints that come together to make this sound.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The band\u2019s members hear how much musical progress they\u2019ve made from \u201cSee,\u201d the debut album they released in 2023, to this year\u2019s \u201cHear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first album, we were all getting to know each other,\u201d Wilson said. \u201cThis one, you can tell we know each other\u2019s playing style. We\u2019re working together more on each other\u2019s songs and more of our personalities are in this album.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wilson counts classic rock and metal as influences in general and, specifically, Lamb of God, Slayer, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd. Cuba spent her formative years listening to grunge rock of the 1980s and \u201990s. Seattle\u2019s Soundgarden and New York City noise-rockers Sonic Youth are high on her list. Wright\u2019s touchstones include Bad Brains, Firehose, Minutemen and H\u00fcsker D\u00fc.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"6\" style=\"position:relative;\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<p>Seven years into their group\u2019s existence, Wilson, Cuba and Wright have some basic goals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just want the group to play music I love for people who enjoy it,\u201d Wilson said. \u201cJust do that all over the country, and see how far we can go. There\u2019s the fame aspect, but I never think about that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wright likes the catharsis performing gives him and the community of friends his fellow musicians provide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I\u2019m on stage, it\u2019s a great stress reliever for me,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd most of the people I know, outside of family, are from the music scene. All my friends are musicians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cuba doesn\u2019t project far into the future, but she does have a short-term goal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor this band, right now, I hope that our new album is heard and appreciated by as many people as possible. We put so much into it, and it\u2019s a really good album.
