As the world outside becomes noisier, this is a project that creates a space of tranquility and solace, while planting a flag in yet another new frontier of popular music.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Kinds<\/em> will be released by <strong>Warp Records<\/strong> on Friday 27 February, and you can listen to the new single <em>Black (Grey)<\/em> below:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"kwes. - Black (Grey) [official video].\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/leTUKCRiH8A?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Made after a reset following a period of burn out \u2013 a period alleviated by a family holiday in a popular holiday resort \u2013\u00a0kwes.\u00a0was inspired to make <em>Kinds<\/em> after an incident involving his daughter:\u00a0<em>\u201cMy oldest daughter was busy drawing and in the midst of it, she accidentally knocked over her glass of drink and it went all over her work. It frustrated her for a few seconds, then she was fine and started another one\u2026 That was the catalyst for me to start the record \u2013 to decompress, to \u2018release\u2019 life-experience: good, bad and everything in between \u2013 to \u2018commit it to tape\u2019 as succinctly as possible, without too much deliberation\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First previewed at the\u00a0Warp\u00a0Happening\u00a0event at the\u00a0Barbican, <em>Kinds<\/em> is formed of tracks named after colours, a system of synaesthetic classification founded on three personal principles: \u201c<em>The first being in relation to kinds of thoughts and feelings I had felt while making them, personal reminders \/ colour-field coded memories in a way\u2026secondly, so that listeners can experience the music how they want to, without much narrative, and\u00a0thirdly, I simply just love colour.<\/em>\u201c<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Kinds<\/em> favours a subtle wall of sound that recalls Brian Eno, and Jon Hassell\u2019s fourth world music but also the noise and drone work of The Caretaker and Tim Hecker. It\u2019s an introspective piece made with his children in mind. This is\u00a0<strong>kwes.<\/strong>\u2019 most immersive work yet, where lone melodies are allowed to expand and contract into vivid soundscapes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Kinds<\/em> will be exclusively premiered at the\u00a0Tate Modern, London as part of a multi-sensory presentation, in collaboration with artist\u00a0<strong>Ryan Vautier<\/strong>. Alongside the premiere, the event will stage an intimate conversation with\u00a0kwes<strong>.<\/strong>, as well as artist DJ sets throughout the night. The record will also be available to purchase exclusively at the event.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a recording career lasting more than 15 years,\u00a0Kwes\u00a0Sey<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>has remained a musical explorer who doesn\u2019t use conventional coordinates to find his destination.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Lewisham-raised artist\u2019s \u2018<em>Meantime<\/em>\u2019 EP in 2012 on\u00a0Warp\u00a0was a showcase of his artistic vision with four tracks, including the hit single \u2018<em>Bashful<\/em>\u2019 and the enduring, beautifully fraught\u00a0 anthem \u2018<em>LGOYH<\/em>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<em>Let Go Of Your Hurt<\/em>\u2019, which appeared on the\u00a0<em>Rye Lane<\/em>\u00a0soundtrack over a decade later, this time featuring\u00a0Sampha\u00a0and\u00a0Tirzah.
