{"id":2282145,"date":"2026-02-14T17:48:23","date_gmt":"2026-02-14T17:48:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2282145"},"modified":"2026-02-14T17:48:23","modified_gmt":"2026-02-14T17:48:23","slug":"little-women-at-westmont-showcases-timeless-themes-arts-entertainment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/little-women-at-westmont-showcases-timeless-themes-arts-entertainment\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Little Women\u2019 at Westmont Showcases Timeless Themes | Arts &#038; Entertainment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Madeline Fanton remembers the first chapter book she read as a child \u2014 \u201cLittle Women.\u201d Now, the visiting professor of theater arts is directing Westmont\u2019s production of the novel by Louisa May Alcott, adapted by Kate Hamill.<\/p>\n<p>Show times are 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27-28 and March 6-7; and 2 p.m. Feb. 28 and March 7-8, all in Westmont\u2019s Porter Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI fell in love with Jo\u2019s fiery spirit, Meg\u2019s steady heart, Amy\u2019s ambition and Beth\u2019s kindness,\u201d said Fanton, who began teaching at Westmont in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI grew up on the 1994 film version, which continues to hold a very special place in my heart,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe story continues to resonate today, despite being set in the 1860s,\u201d Fanton said. \u201cThe pains and joys of growing up, navigating love and loss, and figuring out who we want to be \u2014 these are universal human experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Hamill\u2019s adaptation varies from the novel and films, the play retains the themes that have endeared people to these characters for more than a century.<\/p>\n<aside>\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRehearsals have been full of laughs, high energy; everyone is finding their way into their characters,\u201d she said. \u201cI hope the cast comes away from this experience with a new perspective on these characters and what it means to create something brand new out of something familiar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fanton, who graduated from UC Irvine, earned a master\u2019s degree at Cal State Northridge and a doctorate at UC Santa Barbara, directed \u201cPoor Clare\u201d in 2023 at Westmont.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope audiences connect the unique gifts of each of the characters to the people in their lives and are prompted to reflect on the unique gifts and abilities of every person they encounter,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd they call their moms, dads and siblings and tell them how much they appreciate them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tickets to see \u201cLittle Women,\u201d which are priced at $20 for general admission and $12 for students, seniors and veterans, may be purchased at <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/westmont.edu\/boxoffice\">westmont.edu\/boxoffice<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For more, call the box office, 805-565-7040.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><em> \u2018 The preceding article may include information circulated by third parties \u2019 <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em> \u2018 Some details of this article were extracted from the following source www.noozhawk.com \u2019 <\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Madeline Fanton remembers the first chapter book she read as a child \u2014 \u201cLittle Women.\u201d Now, the visiting professor of theater arts is directing Westmont\u2019s production of the novel by Louisa May Alcott, adapted by Kate Hamill.
