The Godfather actor Robert Duvall has died at the age of 95.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
“Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort,” confirmed his wife, Luciana Duvall, on February 15.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
In life, he was known for his expansive acting career, especially his performances in the first two “Godfather” films, which have been ranked as the greatest by fans<\/a>, and “Apocalypse Now,” “The Great Santini,” “Lonesome Dove,” and “The Apostle.” In addition to being considered one of the greatest actors<\/a> of all time, he worked behind-the-scenes in the industry as a director and producer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n His authoritiy in the entertainment industry led many fans to turn to his thoughts on latest releases. A particular movie, which flopped, was no exception.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Robert previously expressed his disappointment in the film The Lone Ranger, pointing out that funding alone doesn’t create a great movie. The Johnny Depp\u2013film secured a $250 million budget, which didn’t impress Robert.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cIt\u2019s easier to raise $100 million [for a film] than $5 million. Doing an independent film is very difficult and they still do good work. But they do these big movies like The Lone Ranger. I mean, I just thought it was a bad movie,” he said in 2013, according to Far Out Magazine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The Western-action film starred, in addition to Johnny, Armie Hammer and Helena Bonham Carter. It was written by Justin Haythe, Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio. “Native American warrior Tonto recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice,” explains the IMDb description.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The movie’s budget was an issue from the on-set. Originally, it was projected to have a $70 million production price tag, but Disney’s involvement and the casting of Johnny caused a shakeup.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The film’s development began in 1997, but it proceeded at a crawling pace. By 2011, it was put on a stern hold by Disney’s then-CEO Bob Iger, who was worried about the budget. Multiple cast members opted to defer 20% of their salaries in order to keep the production chugging forward.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Ultimately, The Lone Ranger grossed only about $260 million in box office against its approximate $250 million expenses.
