Meghan Markle<\/span><\/a>‘s first solo royal project after marrying into the British royal family was supporting a group of women who created the <\/span>Hubb Community Kitchen<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n The organisation launched in the aftermath of the deadly Grenfell Tower fire of 2017, which killed 72 people, gathering in a communal kitchen at the Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre in West London to cook for those impacted by the blaze.<\/span><\/p>\n Today news emerged that the charity quietly shut their doors.<\/span><\/p>\n \ufeffMeghan began visiting the charity in secret between her 2017 engagement and the May 2018 royal wedding\ufeff, with <\/span>Together: Our Community Cookbook<\/span><\/em> launched months later.<\/span><\/p>\n the American-born royal wrote the forward for the fundraising cookbook, raising money to keep the kitchen operating full time and <\/span><\/p>\n The launch, in a tent on the grounds of Kensington Palace\ufeff in September, marked Meghan’s biggest royal event at the time.<\/span><\/p>\n She brought along husband Prince Harry and mum Doria Ragland, marking her first royal engagement.<\/span><\/p>\n READ MORE:<\/span><\/strong> <\/span>Fergie closes six companies amid continued Epstein fallout<\/span><\/strong><\/a> READ MORE: \ufeff<\/span><\/strong>Countess who called Epstein ‘baby’ quits Prince of Wales cancer charity<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n “I immediately felt connected to this community kitchen; it is a place for women to laugh, grieve, cry and cook together,” she said at the time.<\/span><\/p>\n The book sold almost 400,000 copies in the UK and raised \u00a3210,000 ($403,000) in the process for upgrades to the kitchen.\ufeff<\/span><\/p>\n Meghan, now a mum-of-two, also visited the London charity’s kitchen while pregnant \ufeffwith son Prince Archie in November 2018 and helped prepare meals.<\/span><\/p>\n The Duchess of Sussex made a video call from “across the pond” in 2020, after moving to the US, to mark the charity’s third anniversary.<\/span><\/p>\n She praised the women for their work, calling it “love in action”.<\/span><\/p>\n “I think back to when I met all of you and how you had all come together in the wake of what you experienced in your community,” Meghan said at the time.<\/span><\/p>\n “And now what you have done is such an inspiration.
