Hilary Duff<\/strong><\/a> confirmed that at least some of the music on her upcoming album is about her family after fans speculated that one song in particular is about her sister, Haylie Duff<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hilary, 38, opened up about her new album, Luck \u2026 Or Something<\/em>, in a cover interview with Glamour<\/em><\/a> published Tuesday, February 17. The Younger<\/em> alum explained that she chose to write about her family at this point in her career because she felt it was important to be as real as possible in her music.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s my family. Those are the people that affect you the most, take up the most space naturally as a human who\u2019s born into something,\u201d she explained. \u201cJust because you\u2019re born into a family doesn\u2019t mean that it always stays together. You can only control your side and your street.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seemingly addressing \u201cThe Optimist,\u201d a song that mentions her dad, Hilary added, \u201cI\u2019ve had a very complicated life, and my parents had a very complicated thing. I know it\u2019s not rare, and I think it goes back to the theme of, \u2018Why share now?\u2019 I guess I just felt ready.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hilary\u2019s comments come after fans speculated that one of her new songs, \u201cWe Don\u2019t Talk,\u201d is about her rumored estrangement<\/a> from Haylie, 40. She performed the track last month during her Small Rooms, Big Nerves<\/em> tour ahead of the release of Luck \u2026 Or Something<\/em>, which drops Friday, February 20.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t know when it happened \/ Not even sure what it was about,\u201d Hilary sings on \u201cWe Don\u2019t Talk,\u201d alluding to a fractured relationship. \u201c\u2019Cause we come from the same home, same blood.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before the chorus, she sings: \u201cPeople ask me how you\u2019re doing \/ I wanna say amazing, but the truth is that I don\u2019t know \/ What I always end up saying is how \u2026 \u201d<\/p>\n

She then begins the chorus, where she repeats the lines, \u201cWe don\u2019t talk, we don\u2019t talk about it \/ We don\u2019t talk about anything anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the second verse, Hilary hints at a rivalry between her and the subject of the track, singing, \u201cAnd if it\u2019s \u2019cause you\u2019re jealous \/ God knows I would sell it all, then break you off the bigger half.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later, Hilary sings, \u201cLet\u2019s have it out \/ I\u2019ll hear you out, you\u2019ll hear me out on the couch \/ Get back to how we were as kids \/ Let\u2019s break it down \/ So sick of being so sad about \/ How we don\u2019t talk and you won\u2019t talk about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hilary hasn\u2019t directly addressed what or who the song is about, but fans immediately theorized that the lyrics are about her sister, with whom Hilary hasn\u2019t been pictured publicly since 2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cWOWW\u2026 Hilary Duff just sung We don\u2019t talk and it\u2019s 100% about Hailey. \ud83d\udc40 but not mean at all. Basically telling her to reach out,\u201d one person wrote via X last month.<\/p>\n

Another new song, \u201cMature,\u201d is seemingly about a past relationship with an older man, which Hilary confirmed in her Glamour<\/em> interview. She noted, however, that fans might not be right about who they think the song is about.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s definitely about a relationship that I had. It was very brief with someone older than me, and that was not illegal, but inappropriate when you have this much time removed from it,\u201d she explained. \u201cEverybody speculates, but I\u2019m not sure they got it right. \u2026 I think that it\u2019s super nuanced and it\u2019s hard to defend certain things that have happened in my life. But the one thing that I\u2019ll say is, working as an adult since I was 10 years old, it\u2019s very hard to have relationships with people your own age.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hilary, who has been married to Matthew Koma<\/strong> since 2019, previously dated Good Charlotte\u2019s Joel Madden<\/strong> from 2004 to 2006. When their relationship began, she was 16 and he was 25.<\/p>\n
