Keegan-Michael Key isn\u2019t ruling out a reunion with Jordan Peele, and fans are officially on notice.<\/p>\n
The Emmy winner caught up with PauseRewind\u2019s entertainment reporter Courtney Tezeno at the Los Angeles Clippers & Comcast NBCUniversal\u2019s NBA All-Star Legendary Tip-Off Celebration, where he reflected on his comedy roots, revealed his all-star TV dream team and addressed the question many fans still ask: Will he work with Jordan Peele again?<\/p>\n
\u201cI would love to. I would love to,\u201d Key, 54, said. \u201cRight now, our journeys are just going in their own directions. Right now we’re expressing ourselves that way, and I think that we’ll find ourselves back together. I do not have a timeline for that, but I would jump at the chance to work with him again in any capacity.\u201d<\/p>\n
While there\u2019s no official project in the works, Key\u2019s enthusiasm makes one thing clear: the door isn\u2019t closed.<\/p>\n
In the spirit of All-Star Weekend, Key also drafted his ultimate entertainment-industry starting five, and his strategy was all about versatility.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want five versatile players,\u201d he explained. \u201cI want positionless basketball.\u201d His lineup? Pedro Pascal, Gary Oldman, Sam Rockwell, Margot Robbie, and Amy Adams.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause I’m going small, but I’m going positionless,\u201d Key said. \u201cThe defense they don’t know who’s playing the point, who’s the two, who’s the center. They don’t know what’s happening.\u201d The unpredictability of that lineup mirrors Key\u2019s own career, which has moved seamlessly between sketch comedy, voice work, and blockbuster films.<\/p>\n
When asked about the emotional roots of his humor, Key admitted he doesn\u2019t spend much time dissecting it.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes you just flow and you don’t examine that part of the pain,\u201d he said. \u201cI’m all for therapy but I don’t really know comedy usually comes from awkwardness. It’s when somebody opens up the way to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n
One thing he does know is where the spark began. Watching Eddie Murphy on \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d as a preteen changed everything. \u201cI watched him I’m like, \u2018Whoa, that’s a job.\u2019 It was the fact that opportunity was open to me.\u201d<\/p>\n
As for what\u2019s next, Key shared that \u201cin April, we have ‘The Super Mario Galaxy’ movie coming out, and I voiced Toad again, which was an absolute blast,\u201d adding that he also has several projects currently in development.<\/p>\n
For now, the \u201cKey & Peele\u201d stars may be charting separate paths, but if Key has his way, it\u2019s only a matter of time before their journeys cross again.<\/p>\n
