After nearly a decade-long wait for new music from The Band Perry<\/a><\/strong>, fans can rejoice! The award-winning group has dropped their brand-new single, \u201cPsychological,<\/a>\u201d a catchy, hit-in-the-making that marks an exciting and bold new chapter for the band.\u201d<\/p>\n

Written by Clara Park, Grace Tyler, and Colton Venner, and produced by Dan Huff, \u201cPsychological\u201d impacts country radio on February 17. A perfect blend of southern-gothic vibes, the song is quintessentially TBP, now consisting of original band member Kimberly Perry and her husband Johnny Costello.<\/p>\n

\u201cJohnny and I actually live out in the mountains of East Tennessee, so we have a lot of banjos and mandolins in our sound,\u201d Perry shared in an interview with Music Mayhem<\/a><\/em>. \u201cWe thought \u2018Psychological\u2019 was the perfect house for those sorts of sounds sonically, but also a The Band Perry song is going to have an interesting lyric. The payoff line, \u2018boy you make going psycho logical<\/em>,\u2019 just felt like the tongue-in-cheek, southern-gothic vibe that our band has always loved in our music.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lyrically, \u201cPsychological\u201d taps into the love-struck mind of someone obsessed, willing to transform their life to match the person they\u2019re infatuated with. Playing a chameleon, Perry\u2019s signature vocals narrate a story of someone memorizing Nirvana lyrics, swapping whiskey for Jack, and driving by a dream house \u2014 all to become their love interest\u2019s perfect match.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Cause you make crazy seem rational \/ I\u2019d say obsession feels natural \/ You\u2019re all I want, any hoop, any obstacle \/ Boy, you make going psycho logical<\/em>,\u201d Perry sings in the chorus, before the piano-laden, gothic-country track picks up its tempo. \u201cIn my head, yeah, you mess all my common sense up \/ I know I\u2019m crossing lines that I shouldn\u2019t \/ I\u2019m out of my mind, but I don\u2019t need no hospital \/ Boy, you make going psycho logical<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fittingly, TBP released \u201cPsychological\u201d at midnight on Valentine\u2019s Day, following a Friday the 13th, a timing Perry notes as classic TBP. Leading up to the release, the band teased the track with heart artwork and a phone number, inviting fans to text back and share their own \u201cpsychological\u201d stories.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything right now in the text thread has ranged from \u2018testing, testing, is this thing real?\u2019 to \u2018Are we really texting you?\u2019 to some full-hearted confessions,\u201d Perry revealed. \u201cGirls and guys, sharing their feelings, whether it\u2019s double texting and being horrified about it\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

But she admits, \u201cNo psycho girl can out-psycho me though. Johnny can attest to this. The first night I met him I said, \u2018I\u2019m working really hard not to tell you that I love you right now.\u2019 I\u2019m always full-hearted with two feet in, and that\u2019s exactly what I\u2019m seeing in the text threads from other fans.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since their country breakthrough with 2010\u2019s RIAA diamond-certified hit \u201cIf I Die Young,\u201d The Band Perry has remained a fan favorite, though the Grammy-winning group has gone through several changes. Perry founded the band with brothers Reid and Neil Perry, who took a break in 2023. In 2025, the group reunited for a one-off charity concert featuring Perry, Reid, and her husband, Costello. They\u2019re calling this new chapter \u201cThe Band Perry: Season 2,\u201d with hints that their two-year-old son, Whitaker James, could join on drums for a Season 3.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re calling this The Band Perry: Season 2. It\u2019s the new iteration of the family band \u2014 Johnny and me, we\u2019re married, which feels symbolic of the heart we\u2019re leading with,\u201d Perry said, referencing the heart artwork shared on Instagram. \u201cEveryone has always been full of heart with our music, so that\u2019s what we wanted to lead with.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is Season 2 of The Band Perry\u2026 Will there be a Season 3? We\u2019re trying to teach our two-year-old son to play drums, so you never know where the family band might go next,\u201d she says.\u00a0<\/p>\n

What makes this chapter special is that \u201cPsychological\u201d brings the band full-circle. They returned to their home label, Big Machine Label Group, Nashville Harbor Records and Entertainment, last summer. The fresh release marks their re-entry into country music following a pop-focused period.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, it has been a minute,\u201d Perry said. \u201cThis is our first song released to country radio, streaming, and to fans in nine years. I can\u2019t believe it\u2019s been that long. There\u2019s been a lot of songwriting and song hunting to reach this moment, and we\u2019re so excited for \u2018Psychological.\u2019 It feels like the perfect balance between classic The Band Perry music and everything that makes contemporary country in 2026 exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels like a crossroads of two eras coming together, and we\u2019re excited to be home in country music,\u201d the band added.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead, \u201cPsychological\u201d is just the first taste of a full project from The Band Perry.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re so excited to be home. Dan Huff, who recorded our second album Pioneer<\/em>, is producing this project with us. Being back at Big Machine Label Group has been a full-circle moment with many of our OG team members alongside so much young talent in Nashville,\u201d Perry explained. \u201cSo \u2018Psychological\u2019 is the first step toward this new effort. We\u2019re aiming for an album in the fall, heading into the studio in March for the next batch of songs, and we\u2019ll be touring all year.\u201d<\/p>\n

That tour, dubbed the Psycho Rodeo Tour, kicked off on Feb. 13 in Buena Vista, Colorado, and will wrap in August in Huntingbird, Indiana.<\/p>\n
