That\u2019s obvious to anyone who\u2019s watched her musical repertoire evolve through the years, from the modern flamenco sounds of El Mal Querer<\/em>, to her take on Reggaeton in Motomami<\/em>, to the audacious, orchestral stylings of Lux<\/em><\/a>, which just dropped in November.<\/p>\n The Spanish singer\u2019s approach to fragrance is similar. While she respects anyone who sticks to a signature scent, \u201cfor me personally, I\u2019m not like that,\u201d she says on the phone from her home country, where she\u2019s preparing the Lux World Tour<\/a>. (Shows start March 16 in Lyon, France.)<\/p>\n \u201cI very much like playfulness and versatility. I really like to build looks every day.\u201d (Take it from the woman who bleached a halo atop her head and wore a chastity belt in a music video.) The scent you choose is \u201can extension of how you feel and who you are that day,\u201d she explains. \u201cAnd I think that every day we might feel a little different.\u201d<\/p>\n Perhaps that\u2019s why she\u2019s the face of Calvin Klein\u2019s new Euphoria Elixirs, a line of three intense, vanilla-inspired fragrances with sweet, woody, and musky variations. The musician stars in a new campaign shot by Carlijn Jacobs, posing against yellow, pink, and purple backdrops that embody each scent. All while soundtracked to her Lux<\/em> song \u201cDios Es un Stalker.\u201d (\u201cGod is a stalker\u201d in English.)<\/p>\n The products are available on calvinklein.com<\/a> and retailers worldwide starting today. And Rosal\u00eda has another euphoria-related project coming in April\u2014literally, the long-awaited third season of HBO\u2019s Euphoria<\/em><\/a>. We don\u2019t know much about her guest role yet, except that the official trailer briefly revealed her character dancing on a pole in a sparkly neck brace. Consider us seated.<\/p>\n Here, ELLE catches up with Rosal\u00eda about acting, her tour plans, and how fragrance and music have a similar effect on people.<\/p>\n I\u2019ve been a huge fan of [Carlijn Jacobs], so I was very happy that she was going to be the photographer. I realized she\u2019s so quick, she flowed so much, and I loved her energy, so we understood each other right away. I feel like she captured the spirit of the three elixirs in a way that felt so effortless to me. Each universe was expressed differently, but in a great way. She captures the movement, the color, the emotion in such a powerful way.<\/p>\n The thread that connects them all is vanilla. You have the solar, which is more mango-vanilla and golden orchid. It has this joyful feeling when you smell it, at least to me, it really felt like that. The magnetic elixir is more musky. It\u2019s the pink bottle and it\u2019s more sensual, a little bit more sweet. The bold might be the strongest. When I smelled it, I was like, \u201cWow, this is much more powerful.\u201d It is the purple bottle. It\u2019s more toasted, more woody, more smoky.<\/p>\n Carlijn Jacobs<\/span><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n [The filming process] was a lot about reacting and staying fluid and open. I think a lot of times my job is about that. It\u2019s about, how can I make myself available so my energy can flow, so I can channel different emotions and channel different stories<\/em>?<\/p>\n And in this case, instead of explaining stories that I chose, I put myself in service of somebody else\u2019s vision, because I love Sam [Levinson]\u2019s work so much that it\u2019s worth it to me. Euphoria<\/em> is a series that has such a cultural impact. It\u2019s amazing. It has a lot of honesty. It has a lot of emotional richness to me.<\/p>\n I was, can you believe? I have to wear this for the entire show.<\/p>\n Yes, exactly. There was another challenge added\u2026 At the beginning when I was shooting with it, I was a little bit annoyed. So I had to learn how to love it and live with it. And that was also a learning experience to me in so many ways. It was very, very beautiful and an amazing learning experience.<\/p>\n I think it\u2019s going to be great. I can\u2019t wait to watch it also. I haven\u2019t watched it yet.<\/p>\n I collaborated with Noah P. Dillon, who is the same artist that shot all the artwork for my album, Lux<\/em>. He has such a special way of capturing images. He proposed this idea and I thought that it was perfect for \u201cSauvignon Blanc.\u201d It matched the energy, and I love how he\u2019s very unapologetic, but at the same time, he\u2019s very classy in the way he makes and creates images.<\/p>\n Yes. I don\u2019t remember one video shoot when I haven\u2019t ended either with some dirt or crazy sparkles and paint all over my body; there\u2019s always something going on, but it\u2019s part of the process. I put a lot of love into my job. I have so much commitment and respect for what I do. So I always try to put the best energy and do my best in each case.<\/p>\n Thank you so much. That means so much.<\/p>\n It\u2019s a pleasure. The research that I did was the exact research that I wanted to do. It was the exact songs that I wanted to make and share. So for me to feel free to explore that vulnerability, that\u2019s strength, at the end of the day, it\u2019s a new artistic stage in my life.<\/p>\n So I feel so honored and happy and grateful that people always seem to receive what I do with their arms open. Even if I take a long time to make projects. The people who like my music, I think they understand that I take time, but it\u2019s worth it because I really put so much care and love into my projects. I don\u2019t have control [over whether] people are going to connect or not with the music, so it\u2019s always a surprise when it happens. It\u2019s something I hope, but I don\u2019t have a button that I can press and it\u2019s like, \u201cOh, is it going to happen.\u201d People really were interested, so willing, wanting to understand the storytelling or the intentions behind [the album]. They were analyzing it! It was amazing to see how many interpretations existed of the \u201cBerghain\u201d video, or \u201cBerghain\u201d as a song. It makes me so happy. I cannot ask for more that they seem so connected.<\/p>\n Carlijn Jacobs<\/span><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n I would say that right now I\u2019m preparing a tour that is different than any other tour that I\u2019ve done before. It is very challenging. It takes so much mentally, emotionally, physically, a lot of discipline and commitment that I do it with all my heart. But every day, I try to put on a cute look. I try to choose a fragrance that\u2019s going to lift me up if I need that, or it\u2019s going to make me feel more sensual if I need that. At the end of the day, I try to live paying attention to details and putting love into details because that\u2019s what really keeps me going through the day.<\/p>\n That was something I wanted to tell you before, which is that I am really happy to be doing this with Calvin Klein because I think there\u2019s so much strength and power in fragrances. I find a connection between fragrances and music in a way, because both can transport you. A perfume can trigger a feeling. I don\u2019t know if you agree, but I think they can trigger feeling immediately, just like a song can. Or fragrances can have phases; in a way, they can carry emotion like music does. And that makes me think of Ana\u00efs Nin [the French writer] because she said, \u201cWe write to taste life twice.\u201d<\/p>\n I love that quote so much. I think a good fragrance can let you taste life twice. It can make you re-experience a moment twice. It\u2019s the same with a song. Ten years after you hear a song, it\u2019s going to make you re-live, re-experience that moment again. This is a very easy segue, but you\u2019re guest-starring in the next season of HBO\u2019s Euphoria<\/em>, out this spring. We saw a little clip of you in the trailer. Is there anything you can say about it?<\/h3>\n
From that clip, it looks like you were wearing a crystal or a beaded neck brace?<\/h3>\n
I\u2019m sure that added another challenge to the performance.<\/h3>\n
Well, I can\u2019t wait to see the full season. I\u2019m very excited.<\/h3>\n
You released a new video last week for \u201cSauvignon Blanc.\u201d You\u2019re in a desert, it looks very romantic, you had an invisible partner. Where did the idea come from?<\/h3>\n
What was it like shooting in the desert? You\u2019re rolling around in the sand, really getting your hands dirty there.<\/h3>\n
And that really reflects in the work. I am sure everyone\u2019s told you this, but I adored Lux<\/em>. It was one of my favorite albums last year. A masterpiece.<\/h3>\n
You spent many years on it. There was a lot of language learning, consuming literature, and bringing together orchestras. To actually see it out in the world and see how people are responding to it, how does that feel?<\/h3>\n
