Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor becomes eligible this week for a free
\nbus pass and for a state pension, having reached the age of 66.<\/p>\n
On the day he was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in a
\npublic office, the former Prince Andrew also marked his 66th
\nbirthday.<\/p>\n
In England, a person is eligible for a free older person\u2019s bus
\npass when the\u00a0State Pension age is reached.<\/p>\n
In addition, Mountbatten-Windsor also now qualifies for the
\nstate pension because of his 22 years of service in the Royal Navy,
\nduring which he paid National Insurance contributions.<\/p>\n
The pension is estimated at around \u00a37,000 per year,
\nsupplementing the approximately \u00a320,000 he continues to receive
\nannually from the Royal Navy.<\/p>\n
King Charles, 77, has also been eligible for a state pension for
\nmore than a decade. He is reported to donate his weekly pension to
\nAge UK, although it is not currently known whether Mr
\nMountbatten-Windsor will keep his pension or contribute it to
\ncharitable causes.<\/p>\n
The free transport entitlement allows eligible residents in
\nLondon to use buses and the Tube without charge, as part of the
\ngovernment\u2019s scheme for residents who have reached state pension
\nage.<\/p>\n
