It could go on for five or six hours,\u201d explains Ricky Bell, who co-founded New Edition in 1998 in Boston and also started Bell Biv DeVoe with group mates Michael Bivins and Ronnie DeVoe. \u201cIt was quite challenging, but it\u2019s a process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The New Edition Way Tour is an in-the-round affair that weaves the three acts together throughout the night rather than presenting one at a time. \u201cWe always want to bring our fans just a new experience, something we haven\u2019t done yet,\u201d says Bell, 58. \u201cYou have three basically headline acts \u2026 so we said, \u2018Let\u2019s bring it together as one act.\u2019 You never know what song, what artist is coming next. We worked really hard on the sequence of the show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They collaborate with each other throughout the night, as well, and also begin the show together singing \u201cWe Going Out Tonight,\u201d a brand new song by Bell that\u2019s been recorded and will be released later this year as the first fresh New Edition single in 22 years (not counting the other group members backing Johnny Gill on 2016\u2019s \u201cThis One\u2019s For Me and You\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>New Edition is, of course, loaded up with hits \u2014 group chart-toppers such as \u201cCandy Girl,\u201d \u201cCool It Now,\u201d \u201cMr. Telephone Man,\u201d \u201cCan\u2019t Stand the Rain\u201d as well as solo favorites \u2014 and Bell hopes fans enjoy the trip down memory lane as much as he and his mates do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s kinda like we\u2019re taking you on a journey,\u201d he says, \u201cthrough your life, \u2019cause you\u2019re gonna hear some songs and \u2018Omigod, I forgot about this one. Where was I when I heard that?\u2019 It takes you back to high school, middle school, everywhere in your life. That\u2019s what we try to do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd now, especially with social media, our songs are being introduced to a whole new generation. We do meet-and-greets every night, and we have parents, even grandparents, bringing their kids, and the kids are just as excited as they are.
