Jobson told PEOPLE<\/a>, \u201cWhen these things went on, he was Prince Andrew, Duke of York.\u201d The author further added, \u201cHe was right at the heart of the royal family and appointed by the late Queen [Elizabeth] and the government.\u201d He continued, \u201cIt is one thing kicking him out now and saying he is a bad apple.\u201d However, \u201cthey didn\u2019t have due diligence in place.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe problem will be \u2014 who knew what and when and why was nothing done?\u201d the 67-year-old said. The historian further explained, \u201cIf it comes out that people knew stuff \u2014 whether it be members of the family or police or staffers \u2014 then heads must roll.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moreover, Jobson shared that King Charles<\/a> isn\u2019t responsible for his brother\u2019s conduct. However, this moment should act as a wake-up call for the royals to move ahead. \u201cCharles is not guilty of anything here. But the monarchy needs to change,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Jobson continued, \u201cThey can\u2019t hide behind the Official Secrets Act and the lack of Freedom of Information.\u201d The historian also remarked, \u201cThey have to be as accountable and transparent as a government department. All these whispers here or there, they have to be much firmer in the way they approach things.\u201d He concluded, \u201cThe lack of accountability and the lack of transparency has led to complacency which has led to this problem. They have to be clearer and more transparent.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
