Feb. 20 (UPI) —<\/span> Despite having several nominations, some well-known celebrities have never actually snagged an Oscar for their films.<\/p>\n

Fatal Attraction <\/i>actress Glenn Close<\/a> and Enchanted <\/i>star Amy Adams<\/a> are among the most-nominated artists who have yet to win.\n<\/p>\n

Read on to learn more about the five actors on our list, as well as the films that didn’t quite win them an Oscar.<\/p>\n

Glenn Close<\/b><\/p>\n

The 101 Dalmatians <\/i>star has so far accumulated four Best Supporting Actress nominations and four Best Actress nominations.<\/p>\n

Her first nod followed her film The World According to Garp<\/i>, which debuted in 1982 and starred Robin Williams<\/a> in the titular role. Close’s portrayal of his mother, Jenny Fields, secured her a Best Supporting Actress nomination.<\/p>\n

She was also up for the honor following the 1983 film The Big Chill, <\/i>the 1984 feature The Natural<\/i>, and the 2020 movie Hillbilly Elegy. <\/i>\n<\/p>\n

Close is perhaps best known for her role as Alex Forrest in the 1987 movie Fatal Attraction<\/i>, which followed her obsession with a married man (Michael Douglas<\/a>). That film earned her a nomination for Best Actress, as did Dangerous Liaisons <\/i>(1988), Albert Nobbs <\/i>(2011) and The Wife<\/i> (2018).<\/p>\n

Peter O’Toole<\/b><\/p>\n

Like Close, O’Toole was in the running for an Oscar eight times.<\/p>\n

The late actor, who died in 2013<\/a>, was perhaps best-known for his portrayal of T.E. Lawrence in the 1962 feature Lawrence of Arabia<\/i>. That performance earned him a nod for Best Actor.<\/p>\n

His roles in Becket <\/i>(1964), The Lion in Winter <\/i>(1968), Goodbye, Mr. Chips <\/i>(1969), The Ruling Class <\/i>(1972), The Stunt Man<\/i> (1980), My Favorite Year <\/i>(1982) and Venus <\/i>(2006) also earned him recognition as potential Best Actor winner.<\/p>\n

Though he didn’t receive an Oscar for any of the movies he starred in, he was feted with an Honorary Oscar in 2003.<\/p>\n

Richard Burton<\/b><\/p>\n

The late Burton, who is perhaps best known for marrying Elizabeth Taylor twice, was nominated for Best Actor seven times before he died<\/a> in 1984.<\/p>\n

Burton had starred opposite Taylor in Cleopatra, <\/i>but his performances in the films My Cousin Rachel <\/i>(1952), The Robe <\/i>(1953), Becket<\/i> (1964), The Spy Who Came in from the Cold <\/i>(1965), Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? <\/i>(1966), Anne of the Thousand Days <\/i>(1969) and Equus <\/i>(1977) earned him nominations for the Oscar.\n<\/p>\n

Taylor had also starred in<\/a> Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf<\/i>, and her performance did win her an Oscar.<\/p>\n

The actor had been married five times in all and was known to have issues around drinking.<\/p>\n

Amy Adams<\/b><\/p>\n

The actress, who recently starred in At the Sea, <\/i>has so far been nominated for an Oscar six times. Of these nods, two were for Best Actress, while the remaining four were for Best Supporting Actress.<\/p>\n

In the 2013 feature American Hustle, <\/i>Adams portrayed Sydney Prosser, who commits loan fruad with Christian Bale’s Irving Rosenfeld. The role put her in the running for Best Actress.<\/p>\n

She was also nominated for the award for her portray of Dr. Louise Banks in Arrival <\/i>(2016).<\/p>\n

Adams didn’t win Best Supporting Actress, either, though she was nominated for Junebug <\/i>(2005), Doubt <\/i>(2008), The Fighter <\/i>(2013) and Vice<\/i> (2018).<\/p>\n

Deborah Kerr <\/b><\/p>\n

Like Adams, Kerr was nominated for six Oscars.<\/p>\n

The late actress, who died in 2007, is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Ann Leonowens in The King and I, <\/i>the 1956 film that led to a Best Actress nod.<\/p>\n

She was also in the running for the accolade following Edward, My Son <\/i>(1949), From Here to Eternity <\/i>(1953), Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison <\/i>(1957), Separate Tables <\/i>(1958) and The Sundowners <\/i>(1960).\n<\/p>\n

Though the nominations never resulted in a win, she did receive an Honorary Oscar in 1994.<\/p>\n
