Kelly Clarkson has opened up about why she ended her daytime talk show<\/a> as she gets ready to be a coach on the upcoming Season 29 of \u201cThe Voice.\u201d<\/p>\n The Grammy-winning singer spoke alongside fellow \u201cVoice\u201d coach John Legend on TODAY Feb. 20 about why she decided now was a good time to bring the show to a close after seven seasons.<\/p>\n \u201cI think everybody probably gets the timing,\u201d she told Carson Daly. \u201cOur family life, the dynamic changed a bit, and it has changed for a minute now. You got kids, we\u2019ve all got kids, and it\u2019s one of those things when you kind of start seeing life as how precious it is, too. It\u2019s like, \u2018You know what, I\u2019m really busy.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Clarkson is a mom to daughter River Rose, 11, and son Remy, 9, whom she welcomed with her late ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. He\u00a0died at 48<\/a>\u00a0in August 2025 after three years of being treated for cancer.<\/p>\n \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBrandon Blackstock has passed away. He died at 48 after battling cancer, his rep revealed in a statement to Access Hollywood on Aug. 7.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n \u201cI was like, \u2018I know everybody thinks she\u2019s like quitting,\u2019\u201d Clarkson said about the show. \u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018I still have other jobs, so I\u2019m still doing stuff.\u2019 There\u2019s just too much on the plate, so I was like you know what, it\u2019s time to pull back.\u201d The decision was a difficult one for Clarkson between the success of the show and the close-knit relationship with the staff.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s what was really hard,\u201d she said. \u201cI work with a lot of people here, too. The crew\u2019s been incredible, it wasn\u2019t that the show isn\u2019t doing well. That\u2019s what kind of sucked, everything was going well, and that\u2019s what was really hard.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThat was a really hard thing for me, but an easy decision as a momma.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Clarkson and Legend also gave a preview of Season 29 of\u00a0\u201cThe Voice\u201d<\/a>\u2014 which features a new wrinkle, in that there will only be three coaches instead of the usual four. Out of her nine previous seasons on the show, Clarkson is a four-time winning coach.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI have won the most, if you\u2019re counting,\u201d she joked. \u201cIt was part of my pitch.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Her team will face off against teams coached by two other icons of the hit NBC talent show, Legend and Adam Levine, in \u201cThe Voice: Battle of Champions.\u201d Clarkson also said on TODAY the show will be bringing back some past champions this season as she makes her return to \u201cThe Voice\u201d for the first time since Season 23 in 2023.<\/p>\n “I’ve been gone for a while, so it worked, scheduling,” she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tKelly Clarkson returned to social media after the death of her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock with a special message for fans.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n As a veteran of \u201cThe Voice,\u201d Clarkson still enjoys the Blind Audition segments where the coaches sit in swivel chairs with their backs turned and can only hear the singers performing behind them but can\u2019t look at them.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI love games in general, and I love just being competitive in general, but I do love not knowing who\u2019s behind you,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd then you have this idea in your head, and you turn around, and I am 90% of the time wrong, like every time. You keep thinking, we\u2019ve done this so many times, there can\u2019t possibly be someone just incredible, and wow.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cEvery season, America just keeps giving us great singers,\u201d Legend said.<\/p>\n The new season premieres on Feb. 23 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC and will be available to stream on Peacock the next day.\u00a0<\/p>\n Clarkson\u2019s return to \u201cThe Voice\u201d comes less than a month after she announced on\u00a0Instagram<\/a>\u00a0Feb. 2 that \u201cThe Kelly Clarkson Show\u201d was\u00a0coming to an end<\/a>\u00a0after seven seasons.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI have been extremely fortunate to work with such an outstanding group of people at (\u2018The Kelly Clarkson Show\u2019), both in Los Angeles and New York,\u201d she wrote. \u201cThere have been so many amazing moments and shows over these seven seasons. I am forever grateful and honored to have worked alongside the greatest band and crew you could hope for, all the talent and inspiring people who have shared their time and lives with us, all the fans who have supported our show, and to NBC for always being such a supportive and incredible partner.\u201d<\/p>\n She shared that her family was a key part of the decision.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cStepping away from the daily schedule will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives,\u201d she wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n New episodes of Season 7 of \u201cThe Kelly Clarkson Show\u201d will air through fall 2026, according to a press release.
